New School

Born Phil Gavin in 1985 to a teenage mother, the 21 year old emcee Aphillyate hails from Rochester, New York. Growing up in a predominately black neighborhood, Aphillyate quickly learned about the culture of Hip-Hop and it has stuck with him. After developing an interest in poetry at a young age he decided to transfer his heart-felt poetry about real life into musical form. At the age of 15, Aphillyate found his first beat and wrote his first song and he has been writing ever since. Quickly falling in love with the art of rap he decided to take it as a hobby and convey it into something to be taken seriously. Finding his style and perfecting his skills for years, at the age of 20, Aphillyate felt it was his time to take his music to the world. He started to work on his debut album and in the fall of 2006 A Long Time Coming was released among local buzz and positive feedback. Putting his real life into his songs, he plans on bringing back an element that has been missing from hip hop for many years, truth. He is certainly an artist to keep an eye and ear out for in years to come. It has been said that Aphillyate has the potential to be influential in the future, hopefully ushering in a new need for truth in hip-hop. Something that seems nonexistent today.
