Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Ant Dakini had traveled around the world three times on various boats. She found herself one morning staring at the coast of southern California and had a vision. She decided right then and there to dive from the deck and swim to the shores of the US. Her vision was simple enough: a band. A band in which each member had never smoked a cigarette, but had a distinctive cigarette-burn somewhere on their body. This was her dream-band, regardless of what style. But this original vision would never come to life. Ant had never smoked, but she also did NOT have a-distinctive-cigarette-burn-somewhere-on-her-body. This would disqualify her own membership in said dream-band. By the time Ant did find a musician who had: never-been-a-smoker-but-had-a-distinctive-cigarette-burn-somewhere-on-their-body, it was almost 6 years later. Sergio swore that he had always hated cigarettes. He also claimed to sport a nasty cigarette-burn somewhere below the waist. Immediately dropping his pants, he showed Ant quite a distinctive & dark cigarette-burn. And with his pants still around his ankles, Sergio started to sing. Ant had definitely found a metal-head, and suddenly decided that she didn’t want this to be a metal band. Sergio assured her that the cigarette-burn didn’t hurt anymore and he would sing however she wanted him to, that it would not affect his musical integrity, that heavy-metal was really a mere filter used with a cigarette and not really the essence of tobacco. Ant Dakini declared that she would make the music herself through fruit and other electronic means. Sergio would eat the fruit. AntiQuark was born.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Yes we play live, USA, Europe and Mexico so far. The show we played with Le Tigre was a triumph of good over evil.
