Antifield is a project name for the music created by Mikael Carlsson from Göteborg, Sweden. The music is mainly instrumental melodic trance and dance. Mikael started to create his own music back in the old days with "trackers" like ProTracker and FastTracker II. Later on Mikael started to work with Reason 2.5 and now finally(?) Cubase SX2.
"The trackerscene was something special and the memories from that time still means a lot to me. I learned a lot about creating music from a lot of friends I found on different communities back then. I'm still learning new things, but it's not the same... The tracking was much about the music but it was also a very 'social' thing thanks to all the communities ('Trax In Space' etc)."
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Never been there, never done that with my electronic music... unfortunately.
Your musical influences
I listen to all kind of music styles and that's what inspires me. But since I usually create music for the dancefloor I'm listening a lot to artist in the same genre. For example; Armin van Buuren and DJ Tiësto are two great artists.
What equipment do you use?
M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496.
Korg K49.
19' Samsung Syncmaster 940N.
Pentium 2.80 GhZ, 1024 RAM.
Cubase SX2, VSTs and a lot of samples.
Anything else?
A simple (short version) explanation of the word "Antifield" by R.J. Rummel: "If a magnet is moved underneath iron filings spread on paper, they will mutually adjust themselves to the magnetic field of forces. A wire grid on the paper, however, will constrain the movement of the filings within the grid's cells. As far as the filings are concerned, the grid has cut the magnetic field of forces into separated regions, and it is only within those regions that the filings can adjust. The grid is an antifield."
