The Campus Song... The Campus Song...
We tend to go back in college days and forth between wanting to be in a real relationship, and wondering whether being in a relationship is even worth it. Our colleagues have someone with whom they freak out in canteen and campus, someone who loves t
A unique jamming of working professionals who followed their common passion for music after the impromptu music sessions at collegeâ€.
AntarDhvani is a Hindi rock band from Delhi, India. It was formed when musicians of common taste for music came together. The band has been playing since year 2002, however its a complete dream run where new guys kept joining and a formal Antardhvani came into existence in year 2007
Every member has his own share of memory about how it began?
For Mukesh/Munnu, it started in 2001-02 in room no. 108 of Hansraj College Hostel, where he was mesmerized listening to one of his senior playing an English song on the guitar which Munnu had bought only a couple of days ago. By that time, he knew only G chord, which he had learnt from Ravee.
Ravee and Mukesh went to the same school and later to the same Hansraj College. Ravee started strumming guitar on his own and managed to learn a few chords. He later got buzy with studies. Guitar was left for a while only to come back after sometime with greater determination and passion.
However, Munnu continued playing guitar and formed a trio in Hansraj College, which included Probuddha/PB and Suryajit/Surya. This trio played in various intercollegiate festivals during 2002-03, where Munnu played rhythm, Surya played leads while PB used to sing.
Sumeet, the lead singer of the band, joined Hansraj College in the year 2002 and got to know Munnu, PB and Surya in 2003 only. Infact this is an interesting story, how these four met. Lovers Point or LP as it is popularly called in Hansraj College used to be the place for these people to jam. With the start of new academic session, Munnu, PB and Surya had called in singers for audition. Sumeet used to stay in the hostel, and got to know about the auditions being held at LP from his friend. He rushed to LP only to find this trio jamming, surrounded and cheered by a group of listeners as they played popular Indipop numbers. He hesitantly approached them and asked if he could sing with them? The trio exchanged looks and made him sing songs on some unusual beats, which they called Hanuman taal, Raam taal etc. just for fun sake. Sumeet, could hardly understand what these guys were talking about but some how managed to convince them, that he had in him what these people were looking for.
From then, it was like a well defined group with every one having a pre assigned responsibility.
In between, the quest for tabla player saw people like Arpan Pal, a multi talented singer cum instrumentalist, Arijit, another lyricist cum tabla player and finally Satwik, a fine tabla player coming and leaving because of some reason or the other.
For almost 2 years, Munnu, PB, Surya and Sumeet played in various inter collegiate festivals in and out side Delhi. All this which seemed like a dream taking shape seemed shattered with Suryas decision to leave for UK for higher studies. Soon, Munnu and PB also passed out of college and got busy with work. However, PB really made efforts to get the three, Munnu, Sumeet and himself together, over the weekends and continue practicing. It all went on like this for a year with some private/corporate performances in between before PB left for UK for a career in IT and Sumeet went to Pune to pursue MBA from Symbiosis.
During this time, Munnu kept himself involved in the music circuit of Delhi University by forming a group in Faculty of Law, form where he was pursuing a degree.
Bimal Da (guitar), Shashwat (tabla), Tushar (guitar+vocals), Munnu (lead guitar), Ravee (rhythm guitar+lyrics), Nishant (lyrics), Vishal (bass guitar) and Ankur (drums), played together for sometime before this group got scattered as time progressed.
Sumeet and PB met this group when they were in Delhi during summers and noticed a budding talent in Ankur.
Ankur, the kid on the block had a passion for percussion and played gubgubi, jumbee and a whole lot of rhythm instruments along with drums.
Also, it was the first time that the group had their own songs written by Nishant, waiting to be composed.
Nishant, a lawyer by profession, uses elements like love, spirituality, Sufism, Devotion and certain abstract themes in his poetry.
As time passed, again some people left because of personal reasons and only Ravee, Nishant, Vishal, Ankur and ofcourse Munnu were left from the above list of names.
Ravee was back with a bang and this time with skilled hands and good understanding of composition. First song, Socha na Tha written by Nishant was composed in Ravees room when Ravee, Munnu and Sumeet joined together to form Antardhvani.
Later, 4 other songs were written, Bole Allah & Manodasha by Ravee, Uljhan by Munnu and Bajaate rahe by Sumeet, Ravee and Munnu and composed by Antardhvani.
The first ever recording, of these songs was done in Tarang Studio, Delhi. With Mukesh on Lead guitar and back up vocals, Ravee on Rhythm guitar, PB on flute, Ankur on drums, Ashwini on tabla and Sumeet giving his voice to the songs, it was like a dream come true for this band.
Ashwini, an extremely talented tabla player from Benaras was with the band for a short while but his contribution is unforgettable.
Also, Vishal, who happens to be Munnus brother, played guitar in one song. Now he is the youngest kid on the block and shows his magic on bass guitar.
Ravee, took the initiative of completing the legal formalities in getting the IPR for the songs which now lies with AntarDhvani.
The search for a tabla player finally came to an end with Tuheen joining the band. He is a trained tabla player and has the distinction of accompanying many renowned artists across the country. He also plays other Indian percussion instruments.
Presently, the band has over 10 self compositions, across genre, ranging from Indipop, Hind rock, Fusion and Sufi, and wishes to cut their first album very soon.
Apart from this, the band has performed songs from bands like Euphoria, Junoon, Indian Ocean, Strings, Kailasa, Fuzon etc which they adore and admire.
After seeing the tides of time over the past 7 years, these unique musicians, who are now professionals from different fields, stand together, sharing a common passion, called Music. AntarDhvani as a registered entity may be only a year old, but it brings to you a group of musicians who have stayed together to face all odds only to come up and bring to you what they call, sound from with in, through their soulful music.
