Make You Mine

Thinking about someone that you just can't have...
Angeline is a NZ born, Sydney based singer-songwriter, happily enjoying life on the beach. Her music is a beautiful fusion of melodic folk & sweet honeyed funk, with a healthy dose of sex & candy. Her voice is amazing. She sings about life & love & longing & the human condition. Angeline's unique style is somewhere between the sassiness of Janis, the beauty of Joni & the storytelling of Ani. One punter described a performance as 'sexy rockin' folk music'!
Band/artist history
Angeline wrote her first song at the tender age of eight, worked professionally throughout high school and went on to study Musical Theatre at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth. A 'triple threat' (singer/dancer/actress) she has worked on stage & screen with people such as Glenn Close & Harry Connick Jnr and has performed her brand of sexy rockin' folk music in and around Sydney for the last 3 years. Starting off as more of a pop band with musicians Joe Bozza - bass, Angelo Frisina - drums & Chris Cooke - guitar, they recorded the EP 'Finally...' in late 2002. Artistic differences & the fact that the band included an ex-boyfriend, helped her make the decision to go solo in April 2003. Career highlights have included playing at premier live venue The Basement at Sydney's Circular Quay and a performance last year at the world renowned East Coast Blues & Roots Festival in Byron Bay.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live pretty regularly here in Sydney. They're mostly pretty small as intimate venues are what suits my style of music - although if there was an offer to play a stadium, I'm sure I would cope! Recently I played a gig in a venue that was almost like a theatre. It was so nice to have everyone's attention for every song. I've been on the stage since I was very young, so playing live feels like a natural thing for me. It's one of the most rewarding things in the world to be able to see how your music makes people feel.
Your musical influences
My influences are really wide and the better I become at songwriting the more I feel I can and want to cross genres...the ep is a bit like The Sundays, Natalie Merchant, a little Alanis Morisette, Natalie Imbruglia. My biggest influences are Joni Mitchell & Rickie Lee Jones, I love Bjork & Lamb and would love to start using different electronic sounds and samples. Radiohead is a huge influence. I love Billie Holiday & Nina Simone & Ella Fitzgerald and spending so much of my life doing musical theatre I'm sure that sub-consciously people like Gershwin, Irving Berlin & Stephen Sondheim have influenced my love of melody and song structure.
What equipment do you use?
I play a Maton EA80C acoustic guitar & use Dr Thomastik strings
Anything else?
I designed my own website and am at the moment trying to learn a better program to design it again! I never thought that being a muso I would learn so much about computers!!
