Cursive Momentary Daughter in aah otone scale 2 Cursive Momentary Daughter in aah otone scale 2
In a tuning consisting of all harmonics from 13 to 24. When I listen I feel like my head is changing shape.
Black Bears in aah otone scale 1 Black Bears in aah otone scale 1
My first recording using rational numbers. Click on story/lyrics to see the scale.
Mirror Gate in 7th root of 20/13 Mirror Gate in 7th root of 20/13
My first recorded non-octave experiment.
Orange Clips on Sausages in 11tET Orange Clips on Sausages in 11tET
I find I have the best time with these scales if I play into the natural moods they carry in them. A friend and experienced xenharmonicist described 11tET as "space alien and exotic, metallic."
Envelope Rain in 10tET Envelope Rain in 10tET
I don't know why, but 10tET wows me in wonderful ways. If I had to pick one xenharmonic scale to live with for the rest of my life, it might be 10tET. I think this piece represents the best work I've done with it so far.
Anomalous Readings in 21tET Anomalous Readings in 21tET
Anamalous Readings is, perhaps, a little creepy to listen to, but it was a lot of fun to record.
We Call it Sharing Breath in 20tET We Call it Sharing Breath in 20tET
About this piece I will say that it certainly has a mood to it. I took advantage of some of 20tET's foreign intervals (compared to 12tET), and I mostly like how it came out.
Elefaces in Speech in 9tET Elefaces in Speech in 9tET
I enjoy the sounds of 9tET, but I find them a challenge to work with. This is the best result I've had so far, and I like it.
Butterfly Paint in 17tET Butterfly Paint in 17tET
I kind of consider this the big brother of "Vessels for Moving". I think it's more jangley and disturbed.
Sending in 24tET Sending in 24tET
24tET is double 12tET, the default piano/keyboard tuning. It divides the keyboard's half step into 2 quarter steps, or "quartertones." I didn't like 24tET very much at first, but it worked out this afternoon when I recorded Sending.
Enemy in 15th root of 4. Enemy in 15th root of 4.
15th root of 4 is a tuning that divides the double octave into 15 equal intervals (one octave is thus divided into 7 1/2).
Betsy in 11tET and 8tET Betsy in 11tET and 8tET
I don't know anybody named Betsy, but I think if I did, she would sound like a combination of 11tET (in the "xylophone") and 8tET (in the "bass").
Raisin Nut Bread in 16tET Raisin Nut Bread in 16tET
I used 16tET for this one, a rather dissonant tuning, but not too completely strange. The chorus is mostly 8tET (a subset of 16). It reminds me of video game music.
