Intelligent hip-hop/reggae music for the people.
Band/artist history
Hailing from Americas diverse & bubbling East coast, Ancient Mind is an adaptable and quickly rising artist, poet, and producer. His foundation as a conscious emcee brings a message of equal rights and justice in a time of World tribulation, both appreciated and beloved by his diverse reggae and hip-hop contemporaries, fans, and community.
Starting in 2004 as lead singer to Connecticuts reggae outfit Electric Cloud, it took no time for Ancient to get the wheels greased and rolling in the way of accomplishments. Early 2005 saw a steady line-up of shows, with highlights including opening for the legendary Culture featuring Joseph Hill at Toads Place New Haven, headlining the Hullabaloo Festival for Africa, and releasing the debut album, Dynamic Truth, including collaborations with top artists such as Highah Seekah, Jah Sun, and Jah Elect. The album, released on Ancient Minds label, Uprise Records, hit the scene to rave reviews, interview pieces, and newspaper spotlights from Connecticut to England. The high-energy shows that followed kept fans interested and always hungry for more.
Now solo and stronger then ever, maturity and growth are certainly two things Ancient Mind has acquired. Allowing age to be no barrier, he has worked with legends such as General Smiley and Mikey Dread, along with some of the hottest rising artists including Madi Simmons, Shajena, and Jamaicas own Mighty Lion. His current project with Hawaiian native Kana promises to be nothing less than legendary, with a pre-album mix-tape dropping March 20th 2007, and the album drop date slated for July.
It is his deep faith in the Almighty, respect of all faiths, and positive ideals which have led both to the inspiration of the work and what he believes are the blessings that have followed. Whether slewing slackness on a hip-hop beat, making them know on a dancehall riddim, or bringing back those sweet one drop vibes, he is constantly reminded of who is working for --- the Most High.
With singles such as Rasta Clear the Way, Burn Babylon Down, and the upcoming Empress quickly gaining international radio attention, hes brought the joining of lyrical revolution and keen musicianship to a new level, respecting the visions of legends while paving his own original path.
