A Nash Odyssey
Hallo. I am the Nash Odyssey. I'm a one-man band (except for recording purposes).
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
During the dull and arduous period in which most (English) people revise for their GCSEs, I refused to allow myself to be bothered with all this 'exam' malarky, and instead focussed my energies into recording a selection of songs on my faithful four-track. I then released the product as an album, the Little CD That Didn't Have Any Friends, which was of a somewhat dubious quality, both song-wise and production-wise. Nevertheless, it seemed to gather some kind of cult following, and soon enough I was asked to play a small gig. I decided to don an outfit appropriate to the music style and with which people would identify me - a pink thong and a snowman tie. From this the typical Nash Odyssey apparel was born. Since then I have played other gigs, both as the Nash Odyssey and just general gigging.
Over the last year, I recorded and released a second album, Freudian Slip, which is a considerable improvement upon the original album (although not so 'underground' and therefore 'indie hip' as I have been told). It is still for sale, but having recouped most of the money necessary to record it, I plan to make the album in its entirety available for free on this and my personal site. I'm now 18.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I do play live, wherever someone wants me. It's fun, but I do tend to come close to dirtying my thong before going on.. since live, I wear a pink thong, a snowman tie and nothing else. Special moments would include a crowd of people singing along to 'Lobster King'. I enjoyed that a great deal.
Your musical influences
Acoustic guitar humour like Tenacious D and Joel Veitch. I am also heavily influenced by Mike Patton's projects, and by Joe Satriani's guitarwork (although these are less evident).
What equipment do you use?
An electro-acoustic black Yahama APX-5A, a red-and-white Fender Strat, some kind of Boss pedals and originally, an old-school Casio keyboard.
Anything else?
Love me! I need love!
