ANA ALDEA

Ana Aldea, a Catalan singer and Christian, has enlisted the support of David Tapia, a singer-songwriter from the Canary Islands, to produce a record dedicated to the many Mauritanians who are living in abject poverty.

This is Aldeas first record as a soloist, and all proceeds from the sale of the record will go to a charity based in the Canaries which helps poor Mauritanian families, especially those without a male breadwinner. Many families, living on the edge of society, find themselves with little means of support, either because the husband is ill, or dead, or has emigrated to another country.

Aldea moved from Barcelona, where she had sung with the Gospel Choir, seven years ago. However, her solo career has only blossomed since she arrived in the Canary Islands, and her record is inspired by a trip she made to Mauritania. The words of her songs encourage the listener to reflect on where their life is going, and to consider people like the Mauritanians and think about what really matters. Aldea offers a gospel-rock style of music, and is a call to take seriously the human tragedies unfolding around us.

Aldeas record is called Amanece otra vez (A new dawn), and produced by David Tapia, a composer from the Canary Islands whose own latest record, The colour of the Earth, is dedicated to the Saharan people. It has been well received in the Canaries.
