First I'll start off with the name of the members. My name is Chris aka Menthol X, and my homie is named Bryan aka B Nasty. Alright our music can be considered many different things. I myself consider it Horror Rap, or the Wicked Shit. Just because we're white, doesn't mean we aren't rap. Some will consider us rock based on the fact that we're white. But no, we are rap, just a darker style. We write about many different things, and definitely do not consider ourselves "mainstream" or "commercial" rap. LIke Psychopathic Records, many of our songs have to do with violence. But it isn't just senseless murder. Our inspiration to write the lyrics we write comes from our TRUE emotions. Unlike many other rappers. We don't rap about what will make us famous or make us money, we write about what we truly feel. Some may consider our music an angry style. At the time of writing many songs, that is what we were feeling. Most of the songs deal with hatred, anger, stress, paranoia, etc. But, we try to deliver a positive message at times as well. We try to tell others who are like us, to stand up for themselves and to never let anybody step on them. We try to not just rap about random things, but sometimes turn our rhymes into stories, usually very detailed. Our messages are about things like fuck society, fuck the industry, fcuk anybody who thinks we can't do anything with our lives. So basically, we rap about what we feel.
Band/artist history
Bryan and I met in first grade. It wasn't until the September or October of '03 we decided to do our thing. We both shared similar musical tastes. Mainly Psychopathic Records, like ICP, Twiztid, ABK, Blaze, Dark Lotus, etc. But I was into alot of rap, and Bryan was into a lot of rock. So otherwise, we had no music connections. Around the middle of 2003, I began writing lyrics as Menthol. My first good one was called, "I Murdered Your Family". I was aiming for the wicked shit like Psychopathic Records. I've never thought about murder or suicide, but it was a way of expressing anger. I told Bryan about my lyrics and how I wanted to go on tour and things like that. But I wanted a certain look. A look that was different. He suggested doing tours like, "Halloween Tour" with a Michael Myers mask, and "Friday the 13th Tour" with a Jason mask. I said that wasn't originaly, and probably illegal. While telling Bryan about my lyrics, he told me that he wrote lyrics as well. He told me he wrote rock though. I asked him is he was willing to start rapping, and write the wicked shit. He agreed. After coming up with the name and our names, we had to get our appearance. I designed a look for our faces. At first I thought both of us would be the same, but I asked if he wanted to do his own. We quickly came up with designs. He wanted to do face paint. At first I thought it would be could, because our main color would be black designs, and we could change the base (background)paint, to colors like red, green, white, etc. But then I decided we should do masks. I told him if we wore face paint it would be as if we were ripping off Psy, something I didn't want to do from the get-go. We worked it out and decided on masks. Two colored, black and red only. Never change. At first, red was going to be the base and black the designs. Eventually we reversed it. We came up with designs. It's impossible to describe. The only thing I can is we each have an X on our foreheads, to show a sign of wickedness. After that we came up with our first LP, "The Nightmare Beginz . . .". It isn't finished yet, for Bryan has one more song. But I've come up with the concepts for many more albums and EP's and finished the portion of my lyrics. Recently I've written two solo LP's and I'm currently working on an EP, so that Bryan doesn't fall far behind.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
No. The thing is, we haven't been able to get into studio yet. Bryan has a lot of songs written, but my collection of lyrics is much bigger because I guess I go through more anger and hate than he does. I moved from my old town, which I grew up in and first met Bryan in 1st grade. So in my new school, after three years I still don't feel much acceptance. Plus, Bryan has had jobs and played a few sports, while I don't. So I would come home and write at the most 5 or 6 songs a day.
Your musical influences
I can't speak for Bryan, so I'll give you my own. For getting into the rap scene, I had one main influence. Psychopathic Records. Insane Clown Posse - They made the wicked shit blow up. Very comedic, but can be very serious. Twiztid - Write about politics, media, etc. Tend to be much more serious. Blaze Ya Dead Homie - He isn't very wicked shit, but more hardcore gangsta. It just shows that he wrote how he loved to write, whether it is still popular or not. Anybody Killa - Yeah, he has a lisp. But it inspired me because he kept doing his thing. Also, he's a Native American and isn't afraid to tell about his culture. Dark Lotus - The combo of ICP, Twiztid, Blaze, and ABK. Tends to be very serious, and usually dark and morbid. But has a very positive message. Then there's a rapper called Tech N9ne. He isn't necessarily the wicked shit. He has his own style. He influenced me because he is an amazing song-write, and an amazing rapper. Creating his own style of rapping, he created his own style of rap itself. Tech N9ne is 99% of the time, serious in what he writes about. His first album was alot of inner pain, such as "Suicide Letters" First verse is to his friends, the second to his wife, and the final verse is about his children. He speaks up about how he feels about politics and the industry very strongly. Recently, while writing my second solo album, I began listening to Bob Marley. I became inspired by his rebellious songs, and not the love, though I do love both equally. He inspired me to become interested in Rasta, which is why in my recent solo album, I haven't written about senseless violence, but more about standing up for your rights and fighting back against the opressors. But Amerikaz Nightmare will always remain the wicked shit, for I will always have anger and hate inside of me. It's part of who I am, and I cannot change that.
