Ambrosius was a short-lived, space-folk five-piece from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Although the band only created music for a little under a year, their Abbey Road-meets-OK Computer-meets-1930s folk sound was a fresh addition to the Minneapolis local scene and remains a relatively unheard treasure. Ambrosius was formed with the collaboration of singer/songwriters Carson Lee [vocals/electric guitar] and Tim McVean [vocals/acoustic guitar] in the fall of 2002 at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. With the addition of Charlie Schuman [lead guitar], the trio began performing acoustically as Suite Savina around campus. Matt Kleinschmidt [drums] joined the ranks as a mutual classmate and music-lover, while Jesse Miller [bass] answered an online add for the band based solely on the trio's love of The Beatles. The band's sound became instantly unique: It was obvious that Carson was the Paul McCartney of the group while Tim was the John Lennon, as their songs were poppy vs artsy and upbeat vs. downbeat, respectively. But when singing together, they forged magic harmonies reminiscent of pre-WWII folk and bluegrass. Juxtaposed with Charlie's atmospheric guitar playing, Jesse's melodic bass and Matt's jazz drumming, Ambrosius became an unmatched musical oddity. After recording a demo and playing a solitary live performance, Ambrosius disbanded in the summer of 2003. Carson, Charlie and Jesse went on to form The Fugitive Pose with drummer Donny Lessard later that year; Tim went on to pursue a solo recording project; and Matt simply disappearing... Although gone and unfortunately forgotten, this site preserves the music that Ambrosius made in their brief existence. Their full five-song demo and a song from their only live performance are available for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
