Alysha Brillinger’s blues and reggae influenced songs combine her funky guitar playing and soulful voice to create a fresh vibe of music. At 19 years old, this young artist brings what she liked to call “ HAPPY BLUES” to the table. Take a look and listen and enjoy "Roots, Pop, Reggae" at its best.
WINNER OF 2008 BLUES YOUTH LEGACY CONTEST! With a voice posessing both power and versatility, Alysha Brillinger is a singer/songwriter. Writing with a maturity beyond her 19 years, her pop/soul tunes are touched by her influences of blues and reggae. She is driven and expressive, lively and versatile and a powerhouse singer. Alysha Brillinger has always been a go-getter, an independent female since she was very young. In a household full of multi-cultural role models, Alysha would lock herself in her room, blast records, sing along, and play the keyboard. Always an energetic child, she would organize shows and perform for family get-to-gethers. This powerhouse knew how to excite people by just singing into a hairbrush. In the summer of 2005, Alysha recieved a $20,000 grant for winning 91.5 The beat's "Rhythm Of The Future" contest and began to record a demo in Toronto with producer Marcus Kane, who has sold over three million units worldwide. This experience offered great opportunities, such as opening for Juno Award winner "K-OS" at Hip-Hop-Toberfest 2006 and singing in CMW's "Urban Showcase" in 2006. In addition to that, Alysha has performed with The Detroit Women, Douglas Watson and currently sings/plays bass with reggae-pop duo AnR. Alysha is currently recording her debut album with Juno Award winning producer, Ron Lopata, in Toronto.
I do, indeed. As much as I love recording and producing, I absolutely LOVE performing live. My most SPECIAL moment on stage has to have been at the 2006 Blues Festival; I sang sets with my band, sang backup for several other major R&B/Soul groups. There's really nothing like a HUGE outdoor festival with good music and good vibes.
BLUES, RnB, SOUL, REGGAE, POP, FOLK, WORLD
My musical influences are very broad. Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Bonnie Raitt, The SPICE GIRLS, John Mayer, Amos Lee, No Doubt, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, Amy Winehouse...to name a few.
I love talented singers. I love great writers. I grew up with a dad who plays guitar and a mother and grandmother who were heavy into literature and taught English for a living. I always loved to write and I believe that's where my knack for songwriting emerged.
When I sing, I use this fleshy muscle in my throat.
When I play, I use my dad's old acoustic Yamaha
When I record, I use garageband
When I make music, I use my heart.
I'm so lucky to be able to express myself through this art form. Imagine making a living off of expression- it's like being paid for taking therapy.
Also... I love chocolate + good music, so if you have any you want to refer to me, send it my way. :) PEACE + LOVE!
