Almighty Misfits is: Devin Kylian aka Dr. Vaporz (vocals, beats) Jerimiah Fortin aka Fontaine tha Kryptic One (vocals, beats) Andre Mehr aka Cutty Dre (beats, engineering)
Band/artist history
"Almighty Misfits" started as the "Forgotten Soulz" in 1993 with three members. Devin (Dr.Vaporz) Kylian and Jerimiah (Fontaine) Fortin from western Massachusetts and Laquan (ApokolypsePrime) Warren from Hartford, CT. The Soulz split up in 1996 when Devin moved to the Bay Area (California). In 2000, he convinced Jerimiah to join him in Cali to continue their work together. Unfortunately (for D & J) Laquan was now committed to another underground crew in Hartford called "The I.G.z (Infinite Gauntlet)". Having soaked a whole other side of Hip Hop previously unfamiliar to their Northeastern upbringing, Jerimiah and Devin began collaborating with numerous West Coast talents and creating their own new unorthodox style and sound. In particular, it was the addition of San Francisco-born Andre (Cutty Dre) Mehr's musical talent and production expertise to the group that helped to mold the Misfit sound as it is today. Here you will find a few examples of what happens when the Bay State collides with the Bay Area. Enjoy!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Ironically, we only record because we love perform, but gigs have been very slim lately. Anybody got a venue?
Your musical influences
Pretty much all of the late '80s/early '90s crews. There was a certain spirit of positivity and creativity in crews like EPMD, T.C.Q., BlackSheep, Show & A.G., Gang Starr and even cats like Ice Cube and MC Eiht that is definitely missing these days. We try to bring that vibe back but still flow with modern complexity.
What equipment do you use?
Depends on who we hire. Cutty Dre uses Cubase and a whole lot of plug-ins right now, but is investing in more modules and what-nots whenever possible.
