AL HILL
“One of the most exciting of the roots blues bands to ever come from Ann Arbor/Metro Detroit, pianist/guitarist/vocalist Hill has everything going his way. He has a clear, distinctive, soulful voice, his guitar or piano playing tasty and literateHighly recommended for lovers of traditional horn-fired, piano-saturated blues, with no reservation.” - All Music Guide
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Al Hill is a soul singer, a blues piano master, and a great guitarist as well. His music is rooted in urban blues sounds of the '40s-'60s, but pulls freely from funk, soul and country. The songwriting is top-notch, creative, and fresh. Not your average award-winning blues band!
Al's “other job” is keyboardist and music director for international soul diva Bettye Lavette. Bettye and Al have toured the U.S. from coast to coast, and made numerous trips overseas. He also collaborates with his wife Whit Hill in her Americana band The Postcards, recently releasing their second CD "Farsighted".
