Alan Horvath
ACOUSTIC ROCK ... for real. Alan plays acoustic 6-string guitar, using "open" tunings, and sings with raw sincerity. His songs are well crafted and have been praised by some of the best. If you like acoustic stuff with lyrics, here you are.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
In June of 1998, work with Bill Aucoin (longtime manager of KISS) led to a signing with Halfmoon Records in Greenwich Village, featuring Alan's artistry on two compilation CDs titled, "Discover New York City In Music."
Alan's presence on the web began in January, 1999 - with a site of his own design: AlanHorvath.com ... his performances encompass the Northeast US and, occassionally, Austin, Texas and Los Angeles, California.

Horvath's most recent release is a CD of 10 songs based on J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy, The Lord of the Rings - a project that has received praise over the years from notables like David Bowie and Bernie Taupin. Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I occassionally play venues in Greenwich Village/NYC ... Kenny's Castaways, the Bitter End, and others ... but focus my attentions on theater and house-concert venues ... intimacy rules.
I played Austin, TX in '96 as part of the Austin Songwriter's Assoc. show ... and, prior to 1995, I opened for Deana Carter at Nashville's 12th & Porter.
Doug Weston's Troubador, in Los Angeles, holds some tender memories for me, because it was my "home" in '69, '70, and '71.
Your musical influences
Alan's music has been compared to Cat Stevens, Jim Morrison, Richie Havens, Jim Croce, and John Hyatt. His strongest influences are the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, and Neil Young.
What equipment do you use?
Wood and strings: 1968 Gibson Hummingbird Guitar ... McSpadden teardrop and baritone dulcimers ... 36-string custom F-diatonic Autoharp ... 1986 Flatiron Octave Mandolin ... and various harmonicas.
