Band/artist history
Twenty-nine year old singer / songwriter / guitarist Alan Bennett has spent the better part of the last decade and a half on stage, delighting and inspiring audiences from around the world with his widely versatile and intelligent songs and animated live performances. Alan's unique style combines hard-edged angst with lyrically-intimate organic soul. Whether alone or accompanied by his well-versed cohorts, his enthusiastic live performances, filled with energy, humor and seasoned musicianship, leave audiences galvanized and inspired. Bennett has been featured on radio and television programs, headlined major events and released two records on his own independent label. Currently based in New York City, Alan Bennett Band plays regularly at top venues, including CBGB's Gallery, Mercury Lounge and The Bitter End and is working on a follow up to their critically-acclaimed debut CD "Ordinary Miracle" (A Real Time Recording).
Have you performed in front of an audience?
All the time... Mainly, we play in New York at Mercury Lounge, CBGB's Gallery, The Bitter End and The Wetlands Preserve. The Bitter End is our regular spot. It's a special place with lots of history and the staff really appreciates good music. It's great to play on the same stage where the most influencial singer/songwriters and comediens of the 60's & 70's got their start. We had our CD Release Party there last September.
Your musical influences
If it's got soul, we're into it. Great songs and versatility. WAY too many great artists, songs, producers, players and recordings to mention here. Artists like the Beatles, Billy Joel, Queen, Van Morrison, Counting Crows, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Third Eye Blind, Gladys Knight, Jackson Browne, Dave Matthews Band, James Taylor, Carole King, Sly & The Family Stone, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, James Brown & Aretha Franklin have all had a profound influence on us. So have popular music, motown, classic rock, hard rock, punk, funk, bluegrass, country and jazz.
People tend to compare us to Springsteen, Billy Joel and James Taylor.
What equipment do you use?
Gibson, esp and takemine guitars, peavey bass guitar & amps and pearl drums.
Anything else?
WE LOVE YOU
