ALABAMA CONNECT
What's Good Fam? We are Alabama Connect also know as "The Connect".
Of course, we are from The Mighty State of "ALABAMA" also known as
"DA-BAM". The one thing that you should know about The Connect is that what we rap about in our lyrics are actual events that has happened or that is currently happenning. We keep it real, we are not actors. Also we would like to add that Alabama is the "uncharted territory" of the rap empire and we gladly invite you to come on across the border and kick it with "The Connect". Let's get this Buz going!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Location: Roanoke, AL
We Grew up on Hip Hop and Rap Music. Our Uncle, Black Ceeza a.k.a. Don Ceasarea was a powerful influence to us when it came to Music and Street Knowledge. He molded us into who we are today! Basically after having a few brushes with the law and throwing rocks at the state penitentiary,so to speak, we finally listened to our uncle, Black Ceezar. We decided to take the profit that we had accumulated over time from burning the block and invest it in quality studio time. In other words, we had a monkey on our backs and had to shake it off in the studio. We met DJ Burn One of Atlanta one day while we at a studio session in Carrollton, GA and through him, we was able to hook up with The Legendary Bun B of the infamous UGK "Under Ground Kings and we recorded the song "Rock Music".
Currently, we are working on a project called Rocks-2-Blocks. We are actually putting the finishing touches on the soon-to-be released mixed tape/cd entitled "Rocks-2-Blocks Volume 2 which will be hosted by DJ Greg Street of Atlanta's Legendary Radio Station V103 (WVEE). This particular mixtape is a follow-up from Rocks-2-Blocks Volume 1 which was hosted by DJ Black Bill Gates also of Atlanta. "Rocks-2Blocks Volume 1" is currently available at http://www.cdbaby.com/alconnect.
We have worked with a few artists since we've been on the music scene, particularly the legendary Bun B. Working with Bun was really major and it lets you know that there is longevity in the game. You can remain in this game a long time and after being in the game as long as Bun, you can get paid big paper for just 16 bars, that's what's so amazing about it! We have worked also with Kuntry Kane of P$C, Big Duke of Boyz-N-Da Hood and Bohagon of BME. We work only with "Real Street Cats" and we tend to stay away from the "Gimmick Nword!"
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Of course we play live. We play live in Alabama and Georgia right now but once our "BuZ" get going really big and people start to recognize us and demand us, we will start riding out for real! Currently our local music scene is real slow and we're in the process of getting it up to par. All surrounding areas are really slow also, there really isn't a music scene in The State of Alabama because there's no support! We support ourselves and we are (number one) #1 on our local radio station Hot 105.7 FM in Montgomery and WHOP 1120 AM in Anniston, AL
Your musical influences
We are influenced by the old school cats in the game who have been keeping it real for years and who has longevity in the game, like UGK and Eight Ball and MJG and old Tu Pac. BTW R.I.P. PIMP C!!! My opinion on mainstream music is that mainstream music today is "WHACK, I hate it!" What I don't like about it is there's too much flexing and way too much fantacising and nobody speaks the truth. We hate whack dance music. Who do I admire in the mainstream? Nobody!
Anything else?
It's official, "The Connect Gang/Organization" is a "Movement" and we are (G.D.) Growing and Developing to give the state of Alabama a power raise and we represent the state of Alabama the way it ought to be represented! Currently in the process of developing our on record company, "Money-Muzik-Entertainment'". To other artists I would say step-up your game, stay independent, don't get swindled and do everything yourself! You won't owe nobody anything if your music don't sell. Major labels will put you on the back burner and eventually cut you if you records don't sell!
