Love songs: sweet, emotional, raw, energetic, adoring, fiery. From melodic and lyrical, laid-back acoustic piano to orchestrated to rhythmically primitive indie rock. Each intended as an aesthetic celebration of love, its different phases, from yearning to fulfillment.
My instrumental music is an expression of my love of beauty. It is intended to fill the listener with a sense of appreciation for what is beautiful to awaken in the listener a greater awareness of the beauty in themselves, and in others, as well as the beauty in the natural, the spiritual, and the Divine. Some to make you feel, some to make you move.
My history: Two years of classical piano lessons between ages seven and nine from an old man who lovingly called me Professor. Years of listening to my mother playing jazzy tunes and my father playing everything from Chopin to a beautiful song he wrote, A storm is a wild thing.
Started writing instrumental songs at age fourteen, playing the same songs over and over again, for hours and hours, then days and weeks, driving my parents completely mad. Started writing lyrics at seventeen songs of love, songs of loss and of longing, lots of others, too. Graduated from Brandeis in 84 with Honors in Creative Writing.
Spent a number of years developing a relationship with pianos, learning how they feel, how they respond to me, to my fingers, what happens to the piano and to me when these two notes are played and held, or these two, or how about these three.
Spent some time in Reggae and African music bands in Philadelphia.
Formed a band and wrote in , 4/4, 5/4, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8, 9/8, 10/8, 11/8, 13/8, 15/8.
Fell deeply in love five years ago, just broke up.... have 90 more love songs to record....
Decided to share my music with the world.
Heres my music, and a part of me.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live occasionally. I'm looking forward to a lot more live work.
Your musical influences
People have compared me to Erik Satie, George Winston, Keith Jarrett, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Van Halen, and Dream Theater. That's quite a weird combination of comparisons. The truth is the similarities are largely coincidental, and vary from song to song. But I do feel marginally influenced by Cat Stevens, Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison, early Hall and Oates, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and Elvis Costello, as well as some indie and alternative rock I hear.
Anything else?
I've got about one hundred love songs, written over the last five years, to upload, and more being written all the time. Please visit often as I'll be uploading at least one each week. I'd love your feedback, and would especially like to know which ones you think have strong commercial potential. I'll respond to all friendly communication! Thanks!
