Dewayne's Farewell Dewayne's Farewell

I had a cousin whose voice was too large for this world. God called him home to sing for him on 4 December 2005. Rest in the arms of the Almighty Dewayne. You will be missed dearly.

Birth Of Soul Birth Of Soul

You're born once, but you can choose to be born twice. This is more or less a song about the second birth which is far more beautiful than the first.

Quantity Quantity

Quantity is not better than quality; that's all.

Soul

First and foremost, I am an artist and I cherish my craft. I can't play an instrument, but like my mentors (jazz greats of old) I hear and feel music, so I create melodies/harmonies by ear and soul. Everything that I create comes from my mind and heart. R&B was my first love, until it became watered down. I explored sound until I found comfort in instrumental music. Thus, I made my music home in Jazz, Spoken Word, Soul, Hip-Hop, and Blues. I have words in some of my music, but then there are times when a song and its title speaks for itself and I leave the words up to the imagination of the listener. I feel that all songs don't need words or titles. My stage name is aCe. It stands for 'a Christian example' on good days, and just 'a Common example' any other time. :) I was born Gregory L. Campbell in Charleston, MO just off the banks of the Mississippi River. You would think to hear of songs twinged with broken levee blues, but not so. I have a vast array of listening pleasures from rock to hip-hop. Mostly, I am a soul musician/artist. Enough from me! Please, "let my music do the talking."
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have never played live, because for the longest of time I've been a one man band. I finally have a drummer after about six years of searching. My most special moment was when I got to sing one my songs (no matter how ill prepared I was) for Hidden Beach Recordings staff including the president Steve McKeever at one of our internship conferences.
Your musical influences
Oh my goodness, John Coltrane, EW&F, GAP Band, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Norman Brown, Stevie Wonder, Sarah Vaughn, Jill Scott, Loose Ends, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Jeff Lorber, and the list goes on...
What equipment do you use?
All I have is an Roland MC505 Groovebox and a Tascam Cassette Fourtrack for conjuring up ideas. I want a Nord Electro 2 Seventy-Three and Nord Lead (keyboards). I also have a Fender precision bass and a ton of percussion instruments.
Anything else?
Maracas, flute, recorder, harmonica, tamborine, etc. (Percussion/music accessories)
