Action Toolbelt is Long Island’s newest sound. Somewhere in-between Emo, Punk, Power Pop, and Indie Rock, their music is completely original, and strangely familiar. Action Toolbelt’s music draws influence from the roots of today’s sound as well as the 80s and 90s.Think Foo Fighter/ Superchunk/MatsBand/artist history
action toolbelt was formed when Lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Owen Biggs and Drummer John Orestano decided to make a 4 song cd with friends from Music School.
Shortly after its release they were signed by Fastmusic and recorded 6 more songs for a full length release due out in April.
After returning from California the band added a guitarist Pat, and a bass player, Will Deynes.
With both players veterans of touring with Major Label acts, the live shows quickly jelled.
With a raw sound that is extremley powerful, yet true to the cd, the band quickly got offered shows.
The bands first 6 shows were all part of Showcases including the M.E.A.N.Y Fest and the New York Internantional Festival.
Originally asked to do just 2 shows it quickly escalated to 6 including venues that included, The Continental, El Flamingo, Kenny's Castaways, The Knitting Factory, and Finally the Theatre at MSG.
Action Toolbelt music has a unique way of sounding familiar and yet fresh and different at the same time. They feature lyrics that are introspective and witty, reminicent of bands like the Replacements, Modest Mouse and The Foo Fighters. There musical style has far ranging influences by bands such as Husker Du, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Superchunk, Radiohead, Jimmy Eat World, The Ataris and The Foo Fighters.
Between their unique lyrics, raw emotion and inescapable hooks, you'll have a hard time imaging life without this CD in your player.
They will be featured in an add in February's Alternative Press as 1 of the best new bands of 2004.
