Aaron Armstrong
Hi there! I'm a songwriter of country songs. Though some of my stuff barely fits the general perception of that label.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I was born in Liverpool, England; but I was raised in Africa. Well, that's where I was physically, but I always say I was raised "virtually" in the USA, because all the music I loved came from there and so did all the TV shows I was into. I even went to an American school and grew up speaking with an American accent. All of this explains why I call my latest album "Borrowed Stetson" :-) I guess I got half a right to wear one....
The USA I am familiar with may, or may not, be real. But the songs I write are real enough!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I used to, but it wore me out! Now I'm looking for other hopefuls with more energy and staying power to sing my material.
Your musical influences
I love every kind of Country from Bluegrass, through Newgrass, from Traditional mountain ballads to Rockabilly, from Country-Rock to Cajun and from Oddball to Cornball. I guess you can easily see my influences in my music. I've learned from every songwriter from Hank Williams to Emmylou Harris, from Ernest Tubb to John Prine... and IMHO... I think it shows.
What equipment do you use?
A guitar, a mandolin, a microphone, my old buddy "Band in a Box" and a stack of modules, old & new.
Anything else?
