Lyrical underground hip hop duo from Philadelphia, Pa
Band/artist history
Wrubez: Smitty and I started spittin around age 13. We were subpar to say the least but we had something that a lot of artists today lack...knowledge. We grew up in the golden era of Hip Hop Music (90s) and were blessed with greats such as Rakim, Nas, and The Wu-Tang Clan to be our main influences. I remember back in the day I used to literally mimic Method Man's style in my raps because for a very long time he was my favorite artist ever (Still in the Top 5 easy). From then on, our knowledge and skill just grew as we grew and we soon developed our own style of lyrical assassination. Who would have thought...two white kids from suburban Philadelphia could be so ill? It's not that we are cocky, we are just very confident in ourselves, especially with the state that hip hop is in today. EVERYONE seems to be synthesizing their voices and rapping about just...dumb ass shit (with the exception of the few pioneers left that still grace the mic with divine spirit). We ain't claimin to be the nicest ever to step in the booth, we still have work to do, we still have room for improvement, but it just fuels our fire more and more and we will never stop. Shout to all the people who supported us through the years. We love ya'll. Smitty: It all started in Wrubez' apartments; being heavily influenced by that BLACKOUT! album from Red and Meth, and how as a duo, they just rocked shit. I wanted to be doin' that wit' Wrubez ever since. Late nineties and I would say we got really good or at least really started developin as real artists around 2004.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Wrubez: Yet to be seen Smitty: The closest we ever got to playin live was rappin over beats on Wrubez's computer back in the day for a group of our neighborhood buddies but I truly envision us playin live one day
Your musical influences
Wrubez: Really all Hip Hop from the Pre-2000 Era. Namely Nas, Rakim, The Wu-Tang Clan, Big Daddy Kane, The Roots, Jedi Mind Tricks (Only exception to the 2000 rule really cuz Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell is ill), 2pac, Brother Ali, KRS-One, Naughty by Nature, Redman, Tech N9ne (Another Exception). Smitty: Definitely touched on almost all of em ya kno as long as ya lyrical and you didn't sell out for nothin and kept the music real to the fans you already had instead of tryin to make fans wit the suburbs n shit just kept it real. Nas. Vinny Paz. Black Thought.
