Acoustic Folk

The "Original" Windy Hill Singers were a folk trio formed in San Francisco in 1962. The original members were Buzz Kerr, Mike Pasqualetti, and Sam Saporta. From 1962-1966, the group was billed as "the ineffable apogee in folk singing entertainment". They played in a number of venues in the San Francisco-Sacramento area. The group played often as a duo (Buzz and Mike or Buzz and Sam). In 1965 a new member joined the group, George Chalmers. The "new" group performed as a trio (Buzz, Sam, and George) and a few times as a quartet with Mike. Buzz and Mike stayed connected occasionally singing together and recently re-connected, performed in San Francisco and Arizona, and recorded some tunes. Buzz has also recorded some of the traditional tunes that the group regularly performed by himself with multiple tracks to emulate the sound of the original group

Have you performed in front of an audience?

Because of distance separation, we rarely play live (although we are best live with music and "patter chatter"). Mike and Buzz played at their reunion in SF (check out our YouTube videos) and for friends in Arizona. We played a number of venues in SF and Sacramento in the 1960's including the SF Masonic Auditorium and "Deebos" in Davis and Sacramento. Most of our performances were for private events.

Your musical influences

Obviously, the "Great Folk Scare" of the 60's was our major influence. Groups like the Kingston Trio, Brothers Four, Limeliters, and The Wayfarers.

What equipment do you use?

Buzz plays a Martin D-35, a Wood Song 12 String, an Espana Classic 6-string, a 1962 Vega Folk Ranger 5 string banjo, and a Long Neck 5 string Banjo with a 1928 Vega Little Wonder pot with a hand made long neck. Mike plays a Martin D-28. Both play congas and drums, but Mike is a real drummer along Jazz "Gene Krupa" lines. We have occasionally gone electric if the arrangement fits.
