The Temple of Now

What is the "Temple of Now"you may ask? Being ambiguous, it's going to be different for everyone but it may be best described as a focal point in time, similar to music in this sense. But then which focal point are you talking about? For the "now" becomes in an instant the "past." The present "reality" becomes memory unless a choice is made to maintain the present. So, in such a way a "memory" can become the present focus. Through our own choices the ever-fleeting present moment can be the focus or so can an abstraction as the imagined --becomes REALITY. Thus, is the goal of this band -- To journey one through focal points in time; Musically and Abstractly transferring the Imagined into Reality. Whose reality you may ask? Who knows, for certain! This music will take you on journeys through genres of music both future and past, but always with a foot in each realm. Enjoy the trip!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
ABOUT DAVE BAXLEY: primarily a "live-oriented" prog-rock keyboardist, inspired by the stylings of Genesis and Yes, he co-formed Azure (recorded ?Circle? in 2000) and has recorded three solo albums; as an audio engineer he?s co-produced projects for Dan Marshall, John Hansen, tracked with groups such as Temple of the Times and KeyDragon, and has produced soundtracks for several films and various radio commercials. Recently he had original tracks included on an international tribute CD to Eddie Jobson, "A Theme of Appreciation," produced by Ben Stein (2007). ABOUT CALIE COX: "Home-grown" in Sacramento, CA, a multi-talent who plays Keyboards, Bass, Lead Guitar, Drums and possesses a truly individual singing style with an incredible vocal range. He founded three original bands: "CRYSTAL SPHERE" at age 16 with Mark Curry; Virgin Records recording artist-to-be and Aaron "El Hefe" Abeyta now the current Lead guitarist & Trumpet player of the world famous punk band "NOFX", next "PIRANHA" from (1985-1989) featuring the original drummer of "Tesla"; Bobby Contreras" and Joel Krueger who is the current Bassist of Frank Hannon's solo project "Kaleidoscope" and finally Calie's first successful Independent project "THE BIG BANG!" between (1989-1995), who had two songs make airplay in "A" and "B" rotations at 93Rock locally in hometown Sacramento,CA.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We do occasionally have live moments, but mostly we've been recording, as of late. I,(Calie Cox-Vocalist/Multi-Instrumentalist/Songwriter), have been playing in nightclubs since I was about 13 years old. I have had ALOT of great live experiences. Winning the "Seagram's battle of the Bands" for the west coast,(#6 in the United States), in 1987 was awesome!! Since then, I've had a few successful test markets, and a few really good bands that I have worked with. I basically write solo, and then find people to back me up. This got kind of old, so I finally put together a live band called "Nuke The Cat" coming together right now with members Lynn Derrick on Guitar and Tim Hamilton on Drums. We are recording our debut Cd, and we're looking for a 4th member who can play Guitar/Some Bass/Some Basic Keys/and Sing Back-up Vocals. Contact me if you are in Central New York near Rome or Madison, and you are motivated to record and tour! We have a European Promoter and lots of connections. We are going places!
Your musical influences
My tastes are so varied...Basically everything that isn't Rap, or Country. I even like a bit of folk type of stuff, like "The Indigo Girls." I mainly listen to Classic Rock,(AC/DC,Led Zeppelin,Elton John), Progressive Rock,(Rush,Yes), and Pop/Electronica,(Erasure,Duran Duran,The Cure & Mika). I take a bit of something from everything that I like, and then make it my own. I even like modern Jazz like "Bela Fleck and the Flecktones". Victor Wooten is my all-time favorite bassist to learn from. My current band "Nuke The Cat" would likely be classifies as a combination of heavy intricate Rock mixed with Psychedelic and Progressive Rock styles. Throw in an overall Classic Rock vibe and that is us!
What equipment do you use?
Steinberg Software/Native Instruments/Soundforge/Line 6 Guitar amps/PRS guitars/Johnson acoustic guitars/Fender Basses, and Behringer Bass amps. I also use Presonus Firewire Interfaces. Then my trusty super-charged PC with Windows XP, SP3 ONLY!! (NO VISTA!!!!)
Anything else?
I have a solo CD that I have also released titled"Obvious" by Calie Cox that came out in late 2008. It contains some really cool, retro sounding material from my past. It will be released by CdBaby on Independent Records, so the digital distribution will be on all major sites as is my latest projects release,"Two Worlds", by "The Temple of Now.", also released in late 2008. I am currently working with a new band called "Nuke The Cat" here in Central New York. We are about to start recording our first CD together sometime in the next 2-3 weeks during October 2009. It will be AWESOME! Come on 4th member!! Come and find us because we need you to complete the circle! The live show needs that 4th guy, and another writer would be welcomed!
