We are the future of hip hop! Tha Merchantz are not only a hip hop/rap group, but with the start of "Merchantz Entertainment LLC" we are a multi-faceted entertainment firm. We specialize in artist management, marketing, and development, as well as the full spectrum of music production, song writing, promotion, cd duplication, and internet marketing and sales.
As recording artists we understand the process of making an album as well as radio edited single, and with our knowledge of the music industry as well as our vast network of music industry professionals and contacts, we have all the ingredients to be, and to develop the stars of today and tomorrow!!!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Tha Merchantz hail from Denver Colorado. There are five original members in the band. Myself, a.k.a. Streetwise MC, and my closest friends Spazmatik, Scorch, Don Sosa, and formerly Dezert. Don Sosa and Streetwise produce all our beats, and we all rap. We've known each other for ten years, and have been writing songs together for the last six. We are currently in the process of building up our label "Merchantz Entertainment LLC" , preparing for the release of Streetwise & Spazmatik upcomng album, and the 3rd Merchant album, and have been doing alot of shows locally and regionally. Our 2nd LP Merchantz: The 2nd Coming was released July 17th and is available @ Independent Records, Virgin Records, And Angelo's Cd's and Tapes, and our 1st LP "Tha Merchantz: Money'$ Worth" is in a store near you 2!!!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We'll play anytime, anywhere! In 2007we played The Aggie theater in Ft. Collins August 12th, and we played Cervantes in Denver Colorado on October 23rd, November 15th, 17th, and December 3rd. this summer we've done quite a few shows, june 25th, july 13th and july 23rd at various venues. Look for us in a city near you!
Your musical influences
I'd say Jay-Z, Nas, BIG, Pac, Big L, Big Pun, Jada, Beanie Sigel, Luda, Dr. Dre, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Guru, The Roots, Whodini I mean we learn a little bit from many artists both old and new, but those are the main ones.
