The 4th of July 1993, on the way back to San Jose, aboard a 747, I was thumbing through a dictionary when I came upon the word Emissary. "A messenger sent on a mission." Hmm. A name for a band? Maybe. So with Christ in mind, (I had been reading and meditating on The Word for months prior) I grabbed a pen. Meditating on the "Rock of my Salvation" and the stone that had been rolled away to reveal that Christ had risen, blended in my mind. Fifteen minutes later I had written a rock song that looked like this.... EMISSARY Standin on top of a mountain Lookin down on this town Ridin in after midnite When theres no one else around Rockin this town like a bolt of lightning And were gonna roll away like thunder You aint gonna know our mission baby Or what ROCK we crawled out from under ..YEAH Weve got a message And were gonna DELIVER Yeah weve got a message baby And were gonna DELIVER Listen closely To what we say The time has come to choose direction And the ROCK is gonna show you the way LEAD GUITAR Drinkin from the fountain Take a good look around See the flash of WHITE LIGHT Then listen for the sound Rockin this town like a bolt of lightning And were gonna roll away like thunder You aint gonna know what hit ya baby Or what kind of spell your under...
