Syzygia
My names Jeff
I am the guitarist, songwriter, and front-man for my band Syzygia
I don't like getting into genres so ill just say we're a relatively heavy band and we thoroughly enjoy social change and progressive ideals
we play in low tunings
im not sure why i've just always enjoyed low tunings
for my bands website and booking go to
www.myspace.com/syzygia
excuse the bad recordings I'm in the process of getting a better laptop, a presonus firebox, some various other hardware, and some better recording software
anything else just ask
enjoy
Band/artist history
i formed this band after my former band breaking up with the idea of something more progressive and original but still very heavy in mind
this band has gone through many and continues to go through lineup changes for various reasons
i find that to be largely due to the vastly musically and artistically starved area in which i live and the lack of morals in many people around here in the music realm...further more i have high expectations in people and don't put up with a lot of senseless crap...priorities are very important to me...work first...then fun...unless you're good enough to make it fun from the start...i dont come across that much though
most of the history lies within my head, my bedroom, the various practice spaces this band has occupied, and at a local venues
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We were playing live mostly around the greater Pittsburgh area, and sometimes in ohio and west virginia...without a bass player or fulltime keyboard player...now its only myself and our drummer with 2 friends more or less taking turns filling in on vocals
when we have a full, reliable, committed lineup, reliable transportation, and the means to do so we plan to tour(get in contact if youre serious about a career in music)
Your musical influences
really everything but country
mostly hardcore(as in heavy punk), metal, death metal, progressive, anything electronic, and any bands who don't sellout and maintain some sense of originality and integrity
id like to say i look at my influences more on a sociological and life driven level than bands that have inspired me
there are still artists out there who inspire me though
a few would probably be:
kiko loureirou
andy mckee
all of dream theater
jeff loomis
paul gilbert
all of unearth
all of comeback kid
victor wooten
thomas lang
theres a lot more im sure i just dont feel like naming them all
if you havent listened to some of the above
you should search them on youtube
and check them out for yourself
What equipment do you use?
right now i use a b52 at 100 with a matching cab and a crate blue voodoo cab with vintage 30s
a bbe sonic maximizer, fender chromatic tuner, ibanez tubescreamer, and boss noise supressor
an ibanez rg321
and an rg2ex2
also a crappy dean z and lyon(ibanez rg knockoff) i jam around on at home
our drummer uses a ddrum kit and also has a mapex and peace kit
GUITAR PRO
Anything else?
the only real statements id like to make here is the approach we take to music is a harmony in dynamics between hardcore ideals and lyrics(if you dont know what i mean by hardcore look up some stuff about social change and true democracy and watch some documentaries on new england hardcore and straight edge) progressive music utilizing many different genres successfully, and generally not being influenced by preconceptions. in short we really would like to prove a point of our music being our own expression and passion and not a reiterated version of another band
we are NOT a straight edge band and we are NOT a christian band these seem to be an increasingly annoying prerequisites in bands these days
we just like writing about life and change more or less
if you have any questions or comments about that feel free
