THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS IS THE FIRST HEBREW FEAST KNOWN AS ROSH HASHONAH, THE JEWISH NEW YEAR. THE TRUMPETS ARE ACTUALLY THE SOUNDING OF THE SHOFAR, A TRUMPET MADE OF A RAM'S HORN. WRITTEN BY W. F. MCBETH. PERFORMED BY THE 1980 TEXAS TECH CONCERT BAND.

PERFORMED BY THE CALIFORNIA POLYTECHNIC ST. UNIV. SYMPHONIC BAND IN BEAUTIFUL SAN LUIS OBISPO, MY SOPH. YEAR. THIS WAS COMPOSED IN 1906 BY JOHN PHILIP SOUSA 'THE MARCH KING'. IT WAS TAKEN FROM HIS OPERETTA OF THE SAME NAME MAKING IT A BIT UNORTHODOX.
THE GALLANT SEVENTH THE GALLANT SEVENTH
THE GALLANT SEVENTH, COMPOSED IN 1922, WAS JOHN PHILIP SOUSA'S MOST FAMOUS MARCH IN THE 1920'S. IT IS THE ONLY SOUSA MARCH THAT HAS TWO BREAKSTRAINS. THE TEMPO IS SLOWER THAN HIS OTHER MARCHES. PERFORMED BY THE 1977 SAN JOSE SYMPHONIC BAND.

THIS MARCH IS NAMED AFTER THE GOLDEN EAR TROPHY WHICH IS AWARDED AT A BULLFIGHT TO THE TOREADOR AFTER HE HAS TRIUMPHED OVER HIS BULL. WRITTEN BY SPANISH COMPOSER MARIANO SAN MIGUEL AND PERFORMED BY THE 1968 TEXAS ALL STATE SYMPHONIC BAND.

THIS WAS KARL KING'S LAST PUBLICATION, WRITTEN IN 1962. IN '62 HE ALSO RECEIVED HIS MOST PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FROM THE 'ACADEMY OF WIND AND PERCUSSION ARTS'. HE PUBLISHED 280 COMPOSITIONS IN HIS 50 YEAR CAREER. PERFORMED BY THE 1971 ILLINOIS UNIV. BAND.

MUSIC FROM THE BALLET 'SYLVIA' SET TO MUSIC BY LEO DELIBES IN 1876. THE BALLET WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AND WENT UNNOTICED , BUT WAS REVIVED IN 1952 AND HAS BEEN POPULAR SINCE 1997. HE WAS THE FIRST TO WRITE FOR BRASS AND WIND INSTRUMENTS AND ALTO SAXOPHONE.

THIS COMPOSITION FEATURES A FANTASTIC TRUMPET SOLO PERFORMANCE BY UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN BANDSMAN, JAMES DOUGLAS. THIS RECORDING IS FROM A LIVE CONCERT IN 1965 PERFORMED BY THE GREAT MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY BAND. THE CONDUCTOR WAS DR. WILLIAM D. REVELLI.

PERCY GRAINGER COMPOSED THIS IN 1933 AFTER THE HIGH C MECHANISM BROKE ON HIS HARMONIUM, RESULTING IN A CONTINUOUSLY PLAYED HIGH C NOTE. THE HIGH C IS SOUNDED CONTINUOUSLY IN THIS PIECE. PERFORMED BY THE 1973 TEXAS ALL STATE SYMPHONIC BAND.

THIS IS PERCY GRAINGER'S FIRST COMPOSITION FOR WIND BAND, WRITTEN IN 1905. HE TOOK THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS SONG FROM A POEM WITH THE SAME TITLE FROM SIR WALTER SCOTT'S CHILD BALLAD 184. PERFORMED BY THE 1970 UNIV. OF ILLINOIS CONCERT BAND.

PERFORMED BY THE 1969 UNIV. OF ILLINOIS SYMPHONIC BAND, MARK HINDSLEY DIRECTOR. HINDSLEY WAS DIRECTOR FROM 1948 TO 1970. DURING HIS TENURE, HE WAS THE FIRST TO MAKE AVAILABLE LP DISC CONCERT BAND RECORDINGS. THIS LP WAS #45, ONE OF THE FEW REMAINING.

THE SIGNATURE MARCH AND ALSO THE NICKNAME FOR THE OUTSTANDING 'FIGHTIN' TEXAS AGGIE BAND'. THIS MARCH WAS WRITTEN BY COLONEL JOE T. HANEY, DIRECTOR OF THE BAND FROM '73 TO '89. PERFORMED BY THE BEAUMONT FRENCH H.S. BAND, BEGINNING WITH A FANFARE.
