How cool to find this great piece of music by the French Band. I'm from Beaumont and graduated from West Brook in 1984 while French was still around. I'm not sure what year this was recorded, but they did a great job.

I was fortunate enough to get to play in the Texas Tech Symphonic band when this recording was made. It was such an exhilarating experience to play with this fine band under the direction of Claude T. Smith. What a day!

Again, thank you. I was first chair trumpet in this band, on this performance, and I can't thank you enough for publishing it. I lost my album years ago, and hearing it for the first time in many years is very emotional for me.

Thank you so much for publishing this performance. I was first chair trumpet in this band, on this performace, when I was 15 years old. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Listening to it here really took me back, and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

My favorite from Decatur High Band(IL)1957. The part that I remember is the great flute solo. I didn't hear it in this recording. The brass can take over and drown out a woodwind solo.
When the football season was over, the band teacher got on me not to blast on the trombone. He had taken musuc lessons for 3 years in Paris after playing in the US Army Band.

Song: EL ANILLO GUATEMALTECO
I am so glad I found this. I played this back when I was a senior in college in 1996. I played trombone. I had the constant "F" being played during the ending. My one sister who graduated 3 years prior was playing Bari Sax. Basically the whole Wind Ensemble hated this piece in the beginning, but as we kept practicing we ended up loving it.

Song: A SACRED SUITE
Played this piece in high school in 1964. Hadn't heard it since then.

Song: BOND STREET
Unfortunately, this performance lacks the sense of swing needed to make Bacharach's music work; and, as Duke Ellington told us, it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.

Song: SOUNDS OF APRIL
"Sounds of April" is a big-band medley of various April-related tunes including "April in Paris," "I'll Remember April," and some others I do not recognize. I believe the arranger's name is WARREN Kellerhouse, not William. Perhaps someone can identify the other songs in this arrangement?

I believe the arranger-transcriber of this Ives piano piece is Richard Thurston. As I understand it, the piece quotes Beethoven's fifth symphony because the Alcott children used to play it on their piano. Thank you for sharing this.

This piece deserves more from the wind ensemble. In Tune
from the trombones and French Horns would be a great start.

Song: SYMPHONY NO. 3 FOR WINDS
This piece is tough for the reeds as well as the others.
TY for picking a piece that I have played and conducting.

Intonation is a big issue with issue with this peace. In addition, reeds are so chalanged as well. This recording just acts as a pluse for the wins enemble.

I have always wondered if this Suite was the best of Dr. Williams? Well, in my latter years, I call this composition and "The Symphonians" as both a NUMBER 1. The summer I spent with Dr. Williams gave me an insight into his works.
He always complained about going to fast based on the ability of the Musicians. Retards and passing tones are his
statement on his works. I so wish that I had the recordings of that summer and his teaching me of Conducting. If you
are a conductor, PLEASE listen to my advice. It's NOT a race
with his music. I have so much to thank him for including a
note of congradulations when I conducted His music that summer. He will also be apart of my soul.

Again when there is a great conductor, things happen. As with much of Dr. Williams compositions. One deaw back is the lack of clarinet volume in the beggining. This piece
can be done faster if the musicians are there. Snar drum should open the rolls so that it does not become mushy.
Best done with a wind ensemble. However with a band this size, well done.
Very nice performance of this tune. Which year was this and who was the director at FHS that year? Thanks.
