Studio B Artists
Welcome to our revamped page, which features a variety of original and tribute material.
Mid October 2018 : added "Endless Prism" to the playlist, from our new instrumental cd 'Auditory Revolution'.
Band/artist history
Luke James and I formed OA in late 1997. We've played together in various groups since 1993, such as Stillife. In 2014 : as other contributors came onboard, OA evolved into Ursa Minor. I've known drummer Leo Dyer since we were kids, growing up in the same area. Very talented, versatile musician (plays drums and guitar). Jeff Robinson goes back to the mid 90's with our old band Stillife. He engineered the final Stillife album, one of my solo projects, and the first few OA albums at his studio Sound Traxx in Memphis. Having him onboard both as a bass player and engineer is a gigantic asset to us. After years of focusing more on instrumentals, we have gone back to a slightly more traditional direction with vocal originals in the mix again.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We're more studio oriented, which allows us to put out new material on a regular basis. I've done plenty of gigs with various bands over the years, but my preference and focus is much more on studio work. Luke is more live geared, his cover band plays out a lot.
Your musical influences
Our primary influences start with the classic 60's and 70's psychedelic/early prog bands such as Pink Floyd, Beatles, Hendrix, Cream, Deep Purple, Yes, Sabbath, the Doors, as well as metal bands/guitarists like Helloween, Megadeth, Diamond Head, Maiden, Fates Warning, Queensryche, Savatage, John Sykes, Jake E Lee, Joe Satriani, and Alex Skolnick to name a few.
What equipment do you use?
We have a wide variety of gear....I use Ibanez, Fender and Ovation guitars, Crate heads and combo amps, Peavey and Marshall cabs, Fender, Ernie Ball, D'Addario and Martin strings, Yamaha synths, Shure mics, Boss and Zoom effects, Crybaby wah. My primary recording guitars are gray, red and yellow Ibanez RG 3EX1's (2007-2009 models) , a 1994 lake placid blue Fender Strat and a 1989 Ovation acoustic/electric . Luke uses Fender and Gibson basses, Galien Kruger and Crate amps, Fender and GHS strings. Boss 1180 and 900 series hard disk recorders, AKG and Yamaha headphones, Hosa and Monster cables.
Anything else?

Thanks Mike, yeah I'd sent it to you a while back, but it was never released as a single till now, so most people havent heard it unless they had the cd, its never been posted anywhere.
Mike, how are ya bro? Just busy in the studio, got 9 new songs together towards the next OA album so far, working on the 10th. Trying to get as much done as I can before the holidays. I'll post some samples on here later on in the year or early next year. Later on bud, and hey, hit the station link and check that out when you get a chance (if you havent already), I just got that up and running not long ago, some great stuff on there.
Hey Mike, thanks man, very cool of you to say that, appreciate the support as always. I just added a new single from the current cd (Begin Descent), I think you'll dig it, very shred, aggressive old school metal, with harmonies and some speed picking in the solos. Talk to you later bro.
