Shape of Shadows
Name of the project, Shape of Shadows came to me while making a long drive at night on a country road and seeing the various shapes the shadows made from the moon and my headlights. Not very remarkable, but sounded interesting enough to me.
I had always wanted to be a musician but never really studied music and had no idea how to go about making it. About 15 years ago I bought a microkorg and a drum machine to experiment with. I was pretty clueless and had no idea how to record what I was doing. I usually learn things pretty quickly but was just really naive about music for some reason. It was like this whole entire language I didn't understand at all. I met a friend who had been making his own music for quite some time. He introduced to me software, interfaces, programming and taught me a lot. He made it seem so simple. Without him, I would probably would never have continued to learn.
After a while I was programming music like crazy, just one track after another. I was never fully confident in the music I was making, but after nearly 10 years of learning I gained confidence. In the last few years, because of budget, I had to learn to properly mix and master my own tracks. It is my least favorite part of the process, but it is quite rewarding.
I have never performed live and probably never will. No plans to ever do so.
My influences are: Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Throbbing Gristle, Skold, Rammstein, David Lynch, John Carpenter, Pink Floyd and various others.
Software: FL Studio, Audacity, Reaper. Too many VST instruments, effects and such. I use software instruemnts and effects from arturia and Waves for the most part.
Hardware: Behringer Deepmind 12, Pro-1, K2, and as yet unfinished modular synth rig(which includes modules from Behringer, Calsynth and Sacrement Modular), guitar, Korg Electribe Er-1 drum machine.
