The Cost Of War
Leo Louis Dunson Jr. (born July 2, 1985), better known by his stage name SGT Dunson, is an American singer, song writer, college student, and Iraq Veteran. He has recorded 5 albums in the last 4 years Soldier Music, To Hell And Back, American Soldier, War On The Home Front and God Bless America. He has received publicity for making a song called Change Your Name in response to Soulja Boys attack on the troops and for using his talents in rap music to help him cope with PTSD rather than seeking traditional therapy. Born in Oakland, California, Dunson began writing poetry at the age of 12. He received recognition winning 1st place two years in a row and 2nd place the third year in the "Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Poetry Contest." The poetry transformed into songs in his High School years, where he started to record music. When he first started making music he said he wanted to tell the truth, he said he wanted to listen to his own songs and hear truth in them. So Dunson's first Recording Artist name was "Onest" pronounced "Honest" vowing to always be Honest. While still attending High School he put out a couple demo's and mix tapes, but nothing to knock the roof off his career. After High School Dunson joined the U.S. Army, MOS as an 11 Bravo (infantry). It was in the Army where Dunson earned the rank of Sargeant and recorded his first album Soldier Music. Soldier Music is about his first tour in Mosul, Iraq. His second album To Hell And Back is about his second tour or extension in Iraq to Baghdad. After leaving Iraq Dunson returned home to a divorce, back to back incarcerations, homelessness and a mental rollercoaster of war wounds. He wrote his 3rd album (American Soldier) and 4th album (War On The Home Front) in these dark times of his life. Dunson insists that recording music alone hasn't been the end all cure in helping him cope with PTSD but rather his journey with God has been what's affected his walk most. He talks more about this journey on his 5th studio album entitled (God Bless America). Dunson has attended the College of Southern Nevada receiving an Associates of Arts degree and is currently attending UNLV (Under the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill) seeking a degree in Political Science. SGT Dunson is continuing to make music and is currently working on his new mixtape From Boots To Books
