1. Where are we talking from today?
A. "Emerald City" Seattle, WA
2. Where did you get your artist name from?
A. Scarlet means red, for me, it represents blood and life. Jei means to seek change, travel and new challenges and Saoirse means Freedom. This is entirely who I am. A free-spirited eleutheromaniac who wants to, and chooses to live life on my own terms.
3. Music wise what are you working on right now?
A. Actually, I'm trying something a little different. I'm working on soft rock project that I'm really excited about. I'm inspired by all types of music and would love to be able to branch out into different genres.
Are you currently promoting a single or album?
A. Yes. I have a new single out called "Born To Fly" it's available on all major platforms.
4. Who or what were the most significant influences on your musical life and career?
A. I grew up in a super big family with 13 siblings. The majority of my family does music in one way or another. Whether it be instruments, singing, writing lyrics, making beats. you name it. When I was younger my mom and dad kinda had like their own little two-man band thing going on. My dad would play the bass and mom was on the piano. Sometimes dad would play the piano too. They'd sing oldies and I was always mesmerized. While my other siblings were out playing with toys, I'd listen to them play and have my mom or dad sit me down and teach me little basic tunes on the piano. Dad tried to teach me some guitar but I wasn't really good at it. My mother voice reminded me of a mixture of Anita Baker and Gladys Knight. She would help me with my vocals. At some point she made me join our local choir. I was really just inspired by them, oldies and gospels.
5. Who are your favorite artist and/or musicians?
A. Currently, my top favorite is Lauryn Hill, India Arie, and Sade. But I also really like Aaliyah, Boyz II Men, Brandy, Brian Mcknight... Pretty much 80's and 90's artist.
6. What have been the greatest challenges/frustrations of your career so far?
A. Hmmm, For me the journey is pretty interesting. I like seeing myself in new and unfamiliar situations. I learn so much about myself and life that way. But I will say, the biggest frustration for me is my hesitation and the fact that I seem to always underestimate myself and my own capabilities until I can't do anything but be great. I have to constantly give myself pep talks and reassure myself that I got this and I was made for this. I think I get afraid sometimes, not of failing but of actually being great. Being more than what I've ever imagined myself to be. It's weird. I've had visions ever since I was a little girl that I was supposed to be someone Phenomenal, but sometimes I second guess myself so there's always this constant battle between my ego and who I was meant to be. Obviously, I've chosen to silence the doubts because here I am. That's what my song "Born To Fly" is all about.
7. As an artist, what is your definition of success?
A. Wow, that's a great question. Hmmm, I think for me it's about the freedom to be able to share your art the way you want to and how you want to. To own your art. To win the hearts, respect, and loyalty of your fans, and your peers. And to be able to give back and contribute to positive changes around the world.
8. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A. Absolute peace, Love and complete freedom. A world free of perversion, violence, crime, discrimination, poverty, etc...I think I may be like a Neo Hippie.
9. What is your present state of mind?
A. Just keep going. Don't stop and don't look back.
10. What is your most treasured possession?
A. Well, I believe in Aparigraha. meaning non-possessiveness. But If I had to choose something I guess it would be my soul.
11. What do you enjoy doing most?
A. Traveling... I enjoy unfamiliarity.
12. Where would you like to be in 10 years time?
A. Somewhere gorgeous, sipping on something soothing, completely accomplished professionally appreciating life, my surroundings, and my existence.
