Q (Alias) aka eQ/TEQ: Dark Star Commander-In-Chief is a performing production artist from Eastern Shore, Maryland. He is great for concept initiation, and forever toiling at excellence in his creations. Currently a solo act preparing for the next round of shows, he reps Dark Reign of Omaha, NE as a singer and rapper. Formerly, Q played a similar part in the Guerrilla X project with Kayo, Barz, Minus, and Jailer V. Always in collaboration with someone, he's not unfamiliar with open mic sessions, karaoke nights, and local bar shows. Vocals and a number of instruments fill Q's past - particularly baritone and trombone - although he began creative musical pursuits by banging on lego (Easter) buckets, and a 44-key Casio with coinciding piano lessons. Performance credits in acting date back to supporting roles in grade school music productions, yet namely onstage as the lead (Billy) in a musical production Anything Goes by Cole Porter, and most recently on Conan Or Bust (Annapolis). He sang in church choir during his childhood, and also played in marching, concert and jazz bands. Just short of reaching the state level of orchestral performance, the groundwork was laid for producing music electronically. During college, he continued piano classes, and took on music theory courses from bottom to top. Save for a few performance classes, completing a major or minor in music was not far off, but he wanted a part of the electronic music action. It was so beautiful, and so ugly, easily editing pieces, but having to click and click and click, drag, drag, drag. A wise emcee (Labtekwon) told him to get into studio as much as possible in school, back up his works and write every electronic composition out to sheet music. Naive about the difficulties of getting into a recording studio beyond college walls, and protecting his intellectual works, Q hit a different kind of wall. Despite backing up projects, more than half of Q's beat library (hundreds of beats) was lost, never to be recovered. Sadly, it was not the last time. Some say the third times a charge, so hopefully his library will not be compromised before he gets to finish and share countless projects in the making with you. Find what fits you best and make a movement out of it. There's plenty of ideas to go around, so may the music be made.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Live shows went on in the Omaha Metro area, Iowa, even in Farmington (CT) while I was there. Wherever a venue is available and inviting, I'm interested to say the least. At times I perform with a couple people, and I like it. I want to add a band to fill out concepts.
Your musical influences
I grew up on r&b with some hiphop, although by secondary school, I had performed in choral and instrumental groups from church to marching band, also swimming in alternative and grunge rock to which my childhood friends were drawn. I love old, old world music, Sinatra, funk, and thanks to college, ambient electronica and dnb.
What equipment do you use?
I play some guitar, piano and brass, however, I predominantly use software to create.
