There is an ongoing controversy in the Hip-Hop community that real Hip-Hop is dead. Those not blinded by media and propaganda know that is far from the truth. Hip-Hop has not died, it has evolved. Amidst the evolution of the ever-fast paced industry emerges a new breed of artist. The word 'artist' has three definitions according to the Encarta Dictionary. Two of them describe an artist as: a very talented, and skilled person; the other is: a performer and/or entertainer. There is not a better collection of words to describe 'Gyft'. Born, Matthew Gutierrez in Midland, Texas 1983; the name Matthew means, "Gift from God", hence his M.C. title. This is clearly no accident considering the fact that he is the meaning of artistic talent. Gyft began experimenting with poetry and story writing since he the moment he learned to read & write. Through years of vast experience in trials and tribulations he transformed all forms of emotion positive and negative into creative artistry through song and imagination. Being Born in the early 80's, he is the product of inspiration, from his childhood memories during the: birth of Hip-Hop, 'Post-Cold War' era, and the 'Reaganomics' years of American History. Fans claim it is various characteristics, such as his lyrics and voice or his unique style that attract them to his music and performance. Others claim they can feel his energy; whatever the reason, he is a natural born entertainer.
In the music world of repetitive Hip-Hop he brings something slightly different to the table. He is one of the most energetic and intelligent up and coming MC's in the industry and approaches the music with a mission to spread spoken knowledge and powerful word over melodic ear-pleasing sounds and beats. Gyft is not your average Hip-Hop artist because he doesn't fall into the cliche's that come with being labeled a Rapper. He uses his own carved style of fashion and attitude to shape his artistic image. He writes, records, and performs all of his own material, and continues to develop greatly day by day. He considers himself one of the future great lyricists in Hip-Hop and derives his influence from numerous song-writers all genres of music. Every lyric provides deep understanding and insight. By using an in-depth lyrical versatility and imaginative wordplay, there is no stopping his hunger for improvement and perfection in order to achieve greatness.
Gyft uses his music to voice a heart-felt opinion on different social issues such as politics, social science, and psychology, while representing a widely criticized generation of todays American modern pop-culture. Fans have already compared his style to Hip-Hop icons such as Mike Shinoda from Fort Minor, and Cannibus.
His name says it all and because each line is laced with philosophical overtones, what he offers to mainstream and underground music is truly a "Gyft". His poetic and artistic imagination push him to the next level of rap. Gyft, or G, loves to use references from philosophical literature,social sciences, as well as worldwide current events for material in his music in order to revive conscious rap. Like every artist, life experiences shaped his personality into becoming an extremely intense and passionate M.C. His dream is to build an entertainment empire by continuing to break down social barriers and bring a new wave of rap music that stimulates the brain with catchy word-craft and different styles of beats that pulsate pleasure through your eardrums. With insightful lyrics and unique word association, there is no limit to his expermentation. G intends to increase his musical versatility by not only ghost-writing rap music, but by also becoming an accomplished lyricist in R&B, Pop, and various types of Alternative music. His love for music is unconditional and his influence comes from all genres. Examples of his biggest influences include 2pac, Notorious B.I.G, Eminem, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Rakim, Outkast, UGK, Michael Jackson, Prince, Bob Marley, Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Boyz II Men, The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynard, and many many more.
Gyft wishes to also reach hollywood and pursue a career in acting alongside his musical endeavors. With his own marketing schemes and promotional plans to make one of the biggest buzzes in the music biz, his strategies are nothing short of genius.
