Phae La also known as Reginald O Barrett, started writing as a middle school student. But he didn't start off writing music, he started writing short stories. When he found he had a knack for writing from all the compliments of his teachers, he started writing and reading more and more short stories. He had a normal childhood, though there were some problems he was having to deal with and so as a sopohmore in high school he decided to put all his raw emotion in the form of free verse poetry. It wasn't until a cipher during a school lunch when he decided to try his hand at writing hip hop lyrics. Still focusing on letting his emotions out, he started writing to beats and freestyling to beat boxers. Through the years, he developed his craft, his sound, and his own identity, and used music solely as therapeutic release. He stared getting into engineering his music as well as others, and as time progressed as did his skill and delivery. Once known as Codered, then Truth and now settling with the childhood nick name given by his mother, Phae La is fated to let the world know his story. Being married now for more than 6 years with 3 girls and dealing with his life's challenges, he offers a real, raw, and rare truth that he feels no other artist is conveying.
" I feel through being a father of 3 and a newly divorced, scorned, betrayed yet content husband, and being so in touch with my emotions as well as others, people can definitely relate to all facets of my music. From the pure love, and happy life songs, to the dark, hate depression songs, people will find something they love about me and cling on to it. There's not enough just real life songs out. Life's not all about possessions, and fast women, and I'm going to be the one to tell them, life's hard...now survive"
Phae La has a small but loyal fan base but he hopes that will grow. Open to criticism, good and bad, he just wants his story to be heard. And if in the process he is able to help someone through a rough time, that is all the payment that is needed. Through writing hip hop songs, spoken word poetry, short stories, drawing, and a thing for stepping outside of his comfort zone and trying new things, Phae-La is the embodiment of what it is to be a true artist.

Yeah my homie you did kill this beat. That was some dope sh** feeling the flow, and love the subject matter. Love how you took Carry On beat and just made ur carry on song lol. The only part that I didn't like was when you were saying something about "I know its hard its the only way, trust everything will be okay"... the original was good if u had left it like that but I heard like a voice over that as well and that kinda messed with me but on the real sh** was dope.
