Peter Ashley

Solo artist working in a variety of styles
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Peter Ashley Acoustic & Electric Guitar, Vocals Peter started playing the guitar when he was 13 and played his first gig at 16. He has always tried to play a wide range of music, from rock and country, to jazz and classical. His early influences included the Beatles; Hendrix and artists such as Cat Stevens, John Williams the classical guitarist and Joe Pass the jazz guitarist. He has also been writing songs as long as he has been playing the guitar. The songs on this site are written by Peter. More recently Peter played in various bands in the Bournemouth area with spells in Mind the Gap, Joanna Grey and Idol eyes. He formed Driftwood with Jane Metcalfe with a view to doing more acoustic music covering classics from the 1930s right up to music thats in the charts now. Jane Metcalfe Acoustic & 12-String Guitar, Vocals Jane moved to Poole from Manchester in 1989 to develop her medical career. She decided to sign up for singing lessons, as a way to meet people, and the rest as they say is history. Jane began singing in a local Jazz group and indulged her passion for the music of Tom Jobim (Girl from Ipanema). Since then, she has been a singer/guitarist with successful local bands including Mind the Gap and Dance on, covering old and new 'easy listening' material. She also loves Blue Grass music, particularly Alison Krauss and Union Station, and performs with 'Grass Fire' - playing at Barn Dances for charitable causes. That work has really brought her guitar playing along and she is really enjoying singing and playing with the new line-up. Dave Roffey Dave is a prime example of the inveterate rock bassist who will do anything for an audience. He has even been known to throw a few shapes when someone shone a torch at him and he was caught without his trusty Fender Precision in his hands. Having played in many bands over an undisclosed number of years, taking in everything from showbands, dance bands, pop, rock, country music, Irish folk/rock and finally easing into the semi-retirement field of Blue Grass, Dave was inspired to seek further excitement after seeing his hero, Bill Wyman and his Rhythm Kings. Realising that it was possible to rock on a zimmer frame, when the call came to join Merge in Turn, he was there like a shot. He is quoted as saying Itll take Semtex to get me out of this band. I havent had so much fun since I helped Noah build his boat. Barry Limburn Barry Limburn on percussion and drums New Forest Bodhraness and V-Drummer, Cat Lake, also appears on a number of tracks on the Merge In Turn Demo CD and album.
