PENGUIN EMPIRE
Hello my name is PENGUIN. I am a white rapper from Maine with a lot of love, passion and talent for music.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I started very young as a child star in Christian plays for the blessed hope church on 10 Pleasant St. in Waterville Maine as part of Kings Kids. It has been very hard to shake off the fact that I am no longer a kid, and its been hard for me to have full creative control as a result of having people looking at a 32 year old man in a penguin outfit as a little boy which is pretty creepy if you ask me. As of now Ive been able to shake off my childish antics and be taken more seriously as an adult and a artist. My mom didnt like any of my rap monikers I gave myself but as time went on and my music got better my mom loves the name Nizzy Rugez Hype she had it written all my Christmas gifts. I think its been a big step from being criticized and scrutinized to being idolized and accepted even in France and in Japan for a while because Manon Whittlesey took one of my first CDs to those two places. it feels great to achieve the love, acceptance and support I have always wanted even from French and Asian people. Probably some Canadians as well.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
It was fun to play live for a while. But then I grew up, I got a job and I have to support myself, as a result of being away from the stage for so long its made me terrified of performing live. There are so many people out there watching my every move. I do not have the rehearsals script or structure I used to have that helped me perform like I did in my Kings Kids days. what if I say the wrong thing? Im pretty sure they hear me and and they see me. thats what Im scared of. One special memory I had was when I had to literally scream for a roll in my first Kings Kids play titlled Go Go Jonah. I was playing a character from the biblical Nineveh and my dad had a kick telling me to show my mom my role and my mom heard me scream so loud she was so mad LOL. But yeah my first role was as a character from the biblical Nineveh and it was to scream I kid you not. After 12th birthday to my 18th birthday were my darkest times, as a result of my traumatic experiences at Lakeview and Spurwink left me critically mentally broken and many other traumatic experiences that followed only made my mental health worse. Ever since then I have been trying so hard not to be taken as a child actor but to be taken as a legit rapper.
