Orphans of Love

acoustic bass, guitars, lots of singing, innovative arrangements, great original material, good taste in music, not necessarily what might be popular anymore.

Your Money's No Good Your Money's No Good

Self explanatory.

Alternative General

the orphans of love were formed in the mid 1970's. They were a regular source of entertainment until 1978, and produced a 45rpm, under the auspices of Forty-Five Records, entitled "Orphans of Love", Your Money's No Good, and Quick 'n Slick, which was played for a while at KZAP, and other stations not necessarily in the area. Since that time, various original members of the band have gotten together at times and are still making original music in Sacramento. The record is still available.
Band/artist history
O.K.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Some of us have performed at various times, usually private venues or in conjunction with some other folks here who we have known for the better part of half a century.
Your musical influences
We had three women in the band who all sang and played an instrument, as well as four men. Sometimes we were compared to groups like Steely Dan, or Fleetwood Mac. Probably because either we looked like em, or played some songs they did. We like The Band, Dylan, Randy Newman, Stevie Wonder, The Stones and Beatles, Little Feat, and just about everyone who wrote good songs and performed them well. Smokey Robinson, those guys. We like singing lots of harmonies, and writing what we think are great songs with great lyrics. We were seven individuals and were influenced by many different styles from folk to country to jazz to rock. Tina, Billie, Aretha, Supremes, Martha, Chet Atkins and Baker, the old Blues guys, great pop music, showtunes, vaudeville, Jazz, eclectic music.
What equipment do you use?
Well, I still have my 1965 Fender Super Reverb, and 1972 Les Paul, because that is when I bought them. We have a lot of acoustic insturments these days, after all, we ain't young anymore only young at heart.
Anything else?
We play because we can. We feel blessed that we are able, and that we still enjoy it. We like what we do.
