Nigel Brown and friends
Hi, Welcome to my Soundclick space.
I'm not in any one band as such, the people I've been working with over the last year or two are all separate entities, I get together with each for the purposes of either jamming, recording, gigging or open mic-ing.
They are (in order of the day of the week we usually get together):
The Bookbinder Ultramarines (Friday afternoon/evening in the back room): David, Mark and Tony
Linn (no longer in the country but she deserves a mention), lovely voice
Ania - lovely voice, recording some tracks at the moment at the Rooftop Studio with Mick.
Anyone who turns up at the Bookbinder Open Mic on a Sunday evening.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
The Old Bookbinders Arms seems to be my place of choice, probably because it's next to where I live and because there's a strong musical tendency down there - Ultramarines on a Friday night, open mic on a Sunday night (which I run), and loads of muzos who live in the streets around.
I also play Catweazle whenever I can, it's on every Thursday night in Oxford.
There's also Catweazle in Paradise (aka Kilburn Rise) on a Tuesday night. Just started this year, strong indication that Oxford has a thing or two to export to the big smoke.
Your musical influences
Grew up with classical music lessons (not sure I learned much), rebelled straight into Heavy Metal (early 80s), mellowed slightly by understanding the influences on the HM bands, so 60s stuff: Eric etc, then further back to the Blues, straying into non-British folk; then living in South America introduced me to Latin stuff, especially emotional Son and ballads in general, er... and with a few tangents elsewhere that's about it.
