Viron Project is an solo musician from Paisley, UK.
Spanning many genres, Viron Project weaves an alternative spin on varying electronic and rock genres.Band/artist history
"I started playing guitar at 11, drums was my main focus though.
In the past few years I've got more into bass, piano, synths, and especially sequencing."
"I struggled to exist in bands (several as a teenager) but the one band I did love was full time and I toured for about five years (still play occasionally now). Musically, I'm really selfish so I was never the best at co-writing songs with others. A solo project makes sense."
"As a professional guitarist, this solo stuff was supposed to be strictly "no guitars" and originated with many tracks made up of synths, strings samples, etc etc. Naturally, guitar came back into the fold and some tracks have ended up guitar-based."
"I've always blocked out the vocals when listening to music, I've been against vocals most of my life so I forced myself to try it out on one or two tracks more recently."Have you performed in front of an audience?"I've never played this stuff live. I've been approached here and there by willing volunteers, but I've never ventured that far with it yet."
Your musical influences
"Anything apart from rap music, that new fake 'R&B' shite. Also in the UK there are two cities (Glasgow and Liverpool) which seem to be clouded in this repetative type dance/trance music which I'm almost certain was formed straight from satans' own arse."
"Everything else I'm open to. 70s and 00s electronic, most 'art rock' bands, prog rock, post-rock, and some of the Dubsteb stuff thats coming out of London is really good if you can wade through the shite to get it. Oh, and my favourite pianist is an Italian guy called Ludovico Einaudi."What equipment do you use?
"I use 'Cubase SX3' for audio, and 'Reason 4' for MIDI. Reason 4 is my personal saviour! I have a pair of Tannoy 5A monitors which are pretty sweet, I love those. For any vocals, I use a Rode NT1-A condensor and a single-out TubePre pre-amp."
"Guitar wise, you'll be surprised. I have this Jim Deacon Les Paul copy I got for my 14th birthday and it's my choice over any other guitar. I think it's just homely. For recording purposes I mostly use my Gibson SG. I always run it through the Line 6 Pod XT Pro which is probably my favourite piece of kit over anything else. The Ibanez Roadster II is the bass I use. I picked that up second hand for about 100. Best bargain I ever had! I probably only have about a couple of grands worth of gear, but I'm not much of an instrument geek. I have what I need and I prefer to spend time making music than buying and learning gear."Anything else?
"Aye... Splash, and Splash Productions for all the experience, and way too much to fit on here.
And a big thanks to the guys at www.studio-central.com who were always there through the years helping me get my room studio set up."Larry Ludwick's station
