Mike Lord has been performing for 47 years. He started his career in Texas City, Texas in 1961 and has performed with the likes of Floyd Tillman, Johnny Lee, Stony Edwards, Johnny Bush, Jim Ed Brown, and Roy Orbison. Mike began his recording career in 1968 in San Antonio, Texas on the Satin Label and has recorded in Houston, Texas with A.V. Mittlestedt and in Nashville with Ray Pennington. MIKE LORD began his musical career about 50 years ago in the coastal town of Texas City, Texas. After graduation from high school and college, he moved to San Antonio, Texas in the fall of 1966 and immediately began jobbing out by playing drums and singing with popular, established San Antonio bands. Before long, Mike decided to form his first San Antonio band, The Mike Lord Trio and began playing small night spots in the area.
After several years of one night stands, he and his band were offered a sit-down job at a small club, in Kirby, Texas, called the Conestoga Club which was adjacent to a popular country dance hall, the Golden Stallion. Mike and the band were playing 50's and 60's rock and roll oldies and immediately established a strong following among San Antonio club-goers. After filling the club to capacity, thereby necessitating several expansions, the trio was firmly established on the San Antonio and South Texas scene.
Over the years, the band personnel changed but Mike continued playing what had made the band popular - the oldies. During the 80's, however, he began adding some country standards to his repertoire. During the Conestoga years, he re-acquainted himself with a bass guitarist with whom he had previously worked while playing in other local bands, and a long-time association was born. The bass player was Chuck Robinson, who also sang complimentary harmonies to Mike's lead vocals.
During his time in San Antonio, Mike also began his recording career, singing a variety of music styles from pop to Spanish, finally recording an album in Nashville with producer Ray Pennington. This session produced several chart-climbing singles.
In 1986, following a family tragedy, Mike decided to quit all personal appearances and remained in retirement for 20 years, until, in 2005, a fan coaxed him into re-forming his group to play for her 25th wedding anniversary celebration. Mike immediately picked up the phone and called his former bass player, Chuck, and asked if he was available. When Chuck agreed to play, they set about auditioning musicians to fill the critical position of lead guitarist. When they found Bill Beeson, a well-known San Antonio musician, they immediately knew their search was over and rehearsals began. In October of 2007, the anniversary engagement was completed and the results were so outstanding, the guys decided to continue performing together as the Mike Lord 3. They currently are playing a variety of music during every show but still concentrate on the music requested by their ever-growing fan base....the OLDIES.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, in and around San Antonio, Texas
