Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Formed in 1971 in South Florida. First public performance in 1998 in Macon, GA. Recently completed recording first album at Muscadine Studios (http://www.paulhornsby.com) in Macon, GA for the Atlanta based Surf's Up indie label- title = "A Time In the Spotlight" that is now available for purchase at CD Baby through the "official webpage" link on this page. As the real pros will easily detect, the Hayes Street Band is not a group of professional musicians. While our bass player, Patrick Yoe, plays bass professionally in the Revival Band (www.therevivalonline.com), and our guitar player, J.D. Hoffman, has played in several bands in the past, the rest of us are strictly amateur musicians and singers. We've written some songs over the years, though, that we wanted to record, and decided to lay them down for posterity in a real recording studio. We've been fortunate to be able to find some extremely patient professionals in Macon, GA who were willing to help us on this project. Paul Hornsby long ago solidified his position in the history of southern rock music and we've been fortunate to have been able to record in his studio and to have him engineer, make production suggestions, and even play bass and keyboards on a few of our tracks. B. Keith Williams has been at every session and has given us invaluable advice in addition to laying down some great guitar licks. Dwayne Boswell played both Wurly and grand piano on a couple of tracks and Rudge "Shep" Shepard added a Fingers Taylor-style harp to a few tunes. Billy Rivers and Ross Lindsey shared drumming duties, and Big Tim Brooks played lead on the Fender Strat on a couple of our tracks. Chris Hicks of the Marshall Tucker Band graciously sat in on vocals on 3 of the rock and roll tracks. HSB would like to thank these talented musicians for all of their help, and their patience with us over the many sessions it took to record these songs.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We are currently not playing live shows, but our drummer, Billy, wants to book a few. Miami Dan is not convinced. We'll see.
