With the ambitious wish to propel the entire world into a melodic vortex, Marquis of Vaudeville emits an extraordinary sound that spirals listeners on an utterly imaginative, musical merry-go-round. One never knows what moodswung journey theyâll embark upon once these musical highwaymen hijack their consciousness, so raise the curtain..
Marquis of Vaudeville began with two daydreaming children. Vocalist Toby Lawhon and guitarist Bryan Geddie grew up together in the middle of nowhere Texas sharing most of their childhood on imaginative adventures. In 2009, after years of honing their musical expertise and refining their tastes, they found that their vision was no longer a daydream. Ironic timing brought bassist Tyrel North into the mix and quickly led to the introductions of keyboard/guitarist Sean Curtis and drummer Phil Helms. "There was magic between us instantly. We knew in coming together for the first time that that this group was meant to beâ says vocalist Toby Lawhon. All they needed was the perfect brand to exude a sense of their creatively unique style of music. Marquis of Vaudeville was the perfect nom de plume; a variety of the extravagant. In a short period of time, the theatrical flare and intriguing nature of their songwriting grasped the attention of music lovers, from the most critical of music elitists to the average radio listener. Numerous music showcasing websites have seen Marquis of Vaudeville ranked within the top 10 of a variety of genres, most recently with the group taking the number 1 seat in Rock with "An Ordinary Day" on Ourstage.com. Internet and terrestrial radio such as Dallas' leading rock/alternative station 102.1 The Edge have also embraced their music and featured songs such as the dreamy and hope inspiring track "Divine." They have also been showcased on several music compilations, the most recent being Exploding in Soundâs âœBands You Need to Know 2009â with a review stating:
âœThis Dallas five piece knows a thing or two about hypnotic and beautiful melodies. Marquis of Vaudeville craft alternative rock gems that remain accessible while they wander through space and time. Singer/guitarist Toby Lawhonâs voice dazzles and dances with incredible talent that would make Oursâ Jimmy Gnecco proud. With strong memorable songs, this is the music modern rock radio should be getting familiar with.â
Doug Brod, Editor for Spin Magazine had this to say of their compelling music, "Venus to Vertigo and Bright Star Hope, that mix of pleasant pop and hard-rock dynamics, this stuff is so slick and well-constructed. Very impressive.â
Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls applauds the band with, "Ziggy meets Marc Bolan outside Max's Kansas City. Makes me want to break out some sequined leggings and spit on the sidewalk. Space-age modern age glam nostalgia."
As a vivid reality, Marquis of Vaudevilleâs music is whatever you, as the listener, hear within it and take from it. Itâs whatever you want it to be. To some, they might seem like 60âs revivalists, or to others, a reincarnated meld of 70âs Brit-Glam, but whatever they are to you, or represent, or can relate to in your life, itâs that connection that drives them; to express, to communicate. Hate them, love them, they demand the world take notice, and merely desire to incite something genuine, to inspire sincere emotion despite the worldâs mind numbing mediocrity and generic mass production. Marquis of Vaudeville is a tantalizing flavor for even the most finicky musical appetite.Have you performed in front of an audience?Indeed. Before the curtain.
