I'm a one man band (or guitar player). I've been playing now for about 5 years and love music. Recently I have revived my interest in songwriting and have now written a number of songs, which I hope to share with others on this forum over time. I'm interested in networking with others, jamming if it's geographically feasible and recording if the stars align...
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
One of my favourite places to go is the Groove Kitchen in Cambridge Ontario. I've played there a couple of times at their open mic nights. I'm still finding my niche for performing live and we'll see where this goes in 2009. There are a lot of other interests at this stage... see me other site www.spiritinthevillage.com
Your musical influences
My influences include bands like the Beatles for their lyrics and melodies, Bob Dylan for his ability to just say what he wants and put it to a tune, Neil Young for his simple lyrics but a sound that resonates to the core, to Eric Clapton for his Blues & Guitar styles (although I still have a long way to go with my guitar playing), to U2 for their energy, charisma and incredible multiple guitar tracks for each song, to the Tragically Hip for their ability to go out there with lyrics, to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, to Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson and BB King for the Blues, the Staples Singers for that soul sound to the old standards like Sinatra, Martin and Nat King Cole... And all the others that I haven't mentioned. There is so much good stuff out there.
What equipment do you use?
I'm a little embarrassed but right now I use ACID Music studio and a Eurorack UB502 which is some really basic recording hardware. At some stage I'll upgrade.
Anything else?
Right now I've written a few songs but this is the area that I want to see develop and evolve over the next couple of years. I love the process of writing songs from the original inspiration or thought to the sound of the guitar, developing melodies and rythyms to creating something that is exciting to both play and listen to.
