Felipe Szarruk (Bogotá, Colombia, May 1, 1975) musician, journalist and cultural researcher of the Latin American scene. Born Colombian, Palestinian blood and Salvadorian nationality.
Writer of Independent resources, New technologies and self-management a new independent rock music model. Studied music, drama and mass media, has worked in various fields of the performing arts, mass communication and social development.
As a musician Szarruk has released ten studio albums, some songs have reached top spots on different lists of Latin American radio stations, one of his best known songs is Cara Bonita which went to number one for several weeks in El Salvador and was No. 11 of the 111 best of the year. Likewise Una entrevista con la muerte, Ella, Tito Tambor, among others. Szarruk recorded two versions of Una canción por la paz (A Song for Peace) in El Salvador and Colombia with the most talented and well known rock artists in this countries.
Composer of the first Colombian rock opera Margarita and Faust, premiered in 2006 at the La libelula Dorada Theater and Teatro La Mama on its second season. Followed by a special participation in the Iberoamerican Theater Festival (VIA) and the release of the album in 2013.
Szarruk has performed on stages in Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, USA, Israel, Italy and the USA.
Creator of Subterránica, the alternative media conglomerate that is dedicated to support new rock artists and giving exposure to emerging bands from Colombia and El Salvador. Subterránica produce an annual awards ceremony in Central and South America, as well as contests, music conferences, concerts and media production, was the first on line station in Colombia and a radial success in El Salvador, is considered one of the most important Latin alternative media and a reference for popular culture in his countries.
As social communicator has been highlighted as a broadcaster of 89.3 Cool FM and Radio Femenina 102.5 in El Salvador, as host of Channel 13 Revelados in Colombia, editor and contributor in various media publications, teacher and writer.
Szarruk proposes a model of independent management as stated in the book "Self Management, Independent Resources and New Technologies for musicians" in which he states that the current musician does not need the human equipment to which he was accustomed to having a career. His method is applied in some bands and several musicians use it as a guide to walk the paths of the current music business. According to him, the most powerful evidence that the model works is the success of Subterránica, a collective of alternative culture media and management that provides a platform for emerging artists in Latin America.
In August 2013, Felipe Szarruk took a break in his solo career to create REPXBLICA DE CXERVOS, an imaginary rock band that uses hate- as creative engine and carries an activist message, between 2014 and 2015 he will be working with his solo band and with Subterránica on new projects. The release date of his next solo album is planned for the second half of 2015.
