Raymond Berglund, who considers himself a scotch aficionado, world traveler, and aspiring world record holder, was born and raised a New Englander. When not sailing a 41' Morgan in the Abacos, you can generally find Ray on an airplane. In his formative years, Ray was one of the youngest illegal immigrant rights activists in the early 1980's after being inspired by the Gregory Nava directed film "El Norte". After the accident however, he spent much of his time restoring old Edison gramophones and so began his love affair with sound. His introduction to Dojo Joe was through the band "Ray & Mark" (UK: "Mark & Ray") and through "The Intensity" (Japan: "In 10 Cities"), and it was then that he met Mark Lane spawning a mutual collaborative effort. Ray then continued on to do work in Toronto, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and also France and Germany, leading to a number of influences on his music creation. Working with the Doj on the Tokyo EP, Ray experimented with the keys, the harp, and the marimba, of which the latter two did not make the album cut. He hopes you enjoy the Tokyo EP, and if you do not, then go back to buying albums that were produced with more money than the cost of a plane ticket, 14 burritos and a 12-pack of beers. Cheers!
Mark Lane began his music career in utero. From the day he saw first light, he knew he was going to be a rockstar or a reoccurring token cast member on the Cosby Show, and he's too dedicated to split his time between the two. So with the purchase of a guitar at a yard sale outside of Cleveland, OH at the age of 8, Mark had found his calling. The guitar, rumored to be the discarded axe of Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser of Blue Oyster Cult, gave Mark the outlet for which his creative mind yearned. By splitting his time between the Mid-Atlantic States and Denver, Colorado in his early 20's, Mark entered the Doj with intents of musical creativity and collaboration with partner in rock Raymond Berglund. Soon after the formation of the Doj, Mark's creativity outgrew the confined society of the Mid-Atlantic region, and he made the move to San Diego, California. There, the Doj had a home... a Doj for the Doj, if you will. The startup of Easta Green Music and collaborative efforts with bands such as "Chris, Chris, Chris" and the Southern Cal phenomenon "Brave Monster," developed Mark's musical talents to create and produce Dojo Joe's Tokyo EP.
