Band/artist history
Created with Acid Pro,CoolEdit,Cakewalk, various old tapes, radioshack microphones, and geetars - Player Strat Copy(w/ an odd Washburn Tremelo) - black(natch)/beatup Fender Telecaster(black/white-with assorted paintings from me on it)/Gibson-Seagull 12-string acoustics/Marshall Shredmaster(the best fucking pedal ever created)/Boss Digital Delay(The non-Edge version). And my
pc-101 keyboard as a piano/strings. Will add
more rambling on l8r.
but What is it?!
The Best Things you can do is to have an Idea and a have a Vision and owe to that.
No Chorus on Distortion. Ever.
djka0s+01.mp3
Zero-One...binary...a transmission from a distant star...It's the last song on 'Gravity' proper. The piece is divided into three sections.
First is a a simple hit-hat with a Dr. Longhair-style piano part and some cryptic distorted saying.
The spirits that informed/contributed a large part of 'Gravity' came after Katrina and the Exodus thereafter.
Second section is a sped-up / wind-down. The inspiration for the end slowdown
probably comes from New Order 'Power Corruption and Lies'(genius), the song before Blue Monday.
Because as musios we like to find the lines between things or elements.
The first 2 parts were actually meant to be an interlude beforehand...I tacked them onto the 3rd part otherwise
it would have messed up the numbering of the tracks.
Third setion is the oblitaration(yes i googled to see if I spelled it right, shouldn't 'I Know' how to
spell it?rhetorical). technically it's basically 2-3 guitar parts chopped up then sped up and slowed down in
different keys to provide this certain nebulus amalgom with an instinctual progression. Surf Music for a different sea. The beat was created with
a rudimentary midi drum program (fill-ins and things) afterwards that made sense. I popped it in (cut&pasted little
things here and there)and it made sense. I can see Keith Moon playing(ed) this. Some people think it has no structure but they're looking for water itself to have a form when it just takes the shape of the container.
djka0s+3rdmidi.mp3
A revelation in music naming! It's the 3rd midi I made with Cakewalk. Who knows what happened to 1st or 2nd midi.
I might have them in some old harddrive or cassette. It sounds like it should used in the opening to the OLD and best Iron Chef.
A very austere opening. I did goof on one part of programming(editor's note - No, I think that was in coddle) that it if you listen.
I went nuts with the generic midi drum at the end part.
djka0s+bedistensioncarwashmix.mp3
Be Distension
Distended of Mind and Body. Stretched too far.
djka0s+bedistensionmaxrevmix.mp3
Ditto. See Above. But with Maximum Reverb which makes it sound like a cell(prison or otherwise).
djka0s+beside.mp3
David Lynchian piece built from parts of untitled1hemispherewithalightsource and theabyssalsogazesintoyou.
DjKa0s-bittersweet.mp3 Sweet plus bitter = Bitterweet. Like any sort of love.
I liked her voice so sent her Sweet, asked her to listen to it and this is what happened. This is how you created things
way-back in 2003.
People from all parts of the globe are doing amazing musical things together so why not?
djka0s+burn3auralmix.mp3
Probably my favorite. I was listening backover Curve 'Doppleganger' at this point where they would put the twisting drums in the middle and
everything swirled around it. And the funky distorted Bass-thing at the end just felt right and fit. I
thought it was innovative until I heard other people(rappers/producers) doing it but maybe they were helping me. Kevin Shields
remix production ideas you can hear in it also.
djka0s+burn3.mp3
Another revelation of song naming...burn1 and burn2 weren't any good. An alternate name would be 'Wicked' because it is.
djka0s+crushingnewver2.mp3
Built from guitar parts of '01' with a New Order beat and with a funky Dr. Dre part at the end section.
DjKa0s_Entry_(bullfrog squish mix)_192.mp3
Emma at radio4all.net kept this alive but the end part mimicking 'A Forest' is missing. I still have it somewhere. Dammit.
djka0s+ff.mp3
A Violent Brain Scraping to make it clean and clear for the next song.
Using the microphone as a slide...or was it a microcassette recorder.
Some might hear overtones of early blues recordings.
ff stands for Fred Frith but you can make up your meaning for what it stands for if you want...
djka0s+field.mp3
It sounds like metal bending and springing back to shape. A long and slow revelation. It's more fitting to be played on 'Echoes' by John Diliberto. Inspired by the painter Mark Rothko.
djka0s+freakwititrawnudesunrise.mp3
Playing with a microphone stuffed into my 12-string acoustic through the PC. A battle between drum and guitar rhythm or the merging of both.
This is how it was recorded supra-live with the beat going.
'Riding the Horse' as it were.
The vocal parts could be added going along the lines of the guitar...but not sure how it would add much more
since the voice of the song is Immense as it is and you can come up/imagine much more this way.
Nothing added except front and back.
djka0s+freakystylevash.mp3
Vashti with my freaky style in winamp. Bird-like. It's based on 'Lonely Without You' by Vashti/DjKa0s.
The 'Gossamer Brill Building' mix exactly..which I don't have anymore anywhere.
It's such sweet sorrow...if you have it please send it to me.
djka0s+galadriel.mp3
Sharp,Beautiful and Painful. Galadriel...I Love the name for whatever reason. Just the way it rolls of the tongue. There's someone playing a
tambourine in the background just grooving(in a Robert Palmer-way video motion with the leather skirts..you know what I mean) as we all are.
Space Tropicalia?
djka0s+homeawayfrom.mp3
Otherwise known as 'Waterbody'. The cadence of 'Home,Away From' seemed more fitting later did I find out Jack Kerouac used the same cadence. The way
the 2 streams of beats go out of cadence/key and then merge is like 'Strawberry Fields'. It seems as
though you kind of stumbled upon this music that sort of exists somewhere and always will.
djka0s+iapetus.mp3
Iapetus. There's a place in Australia mentioned by Bill Bryson called Iapetus. This is a great sounding name! It has
the sense of a mystical place called 'The Land Of Iapetus'. What would you find there...what would you
see?! Later did I find out it's also a moon circling Saturn. The Red Room in 'Twin Peaks' has Saturn in it.
djka0s+inhear.mp3
Inhear...In here....In Hearing. A sharp precise wake-up. Not a fan of Life on Mars(UK)?
Technically, it's based on a guitar part transformed into midi (flute) with a 2k soundwave boring through your ear.
djka0s+intermis2006.mp3
An Intermission. I like to play it on loop. As you listen you be begin to see more or vice-sersa.
djka0s+midstream.mp3
Instrumental.
djka0s+music6.mp3
Music 6...Alot of pasting and cutting in CoolEdit from what I can remember. This is back in 1996. I still can't figure out how I got the reverb on the piano part which I really like.
djka0s+originalshineechotobassremix.mp3
Echo to base...All the original 'tracks' are there just amplified, parametrically equalized, and
regurgitated except for the beginning.
djka0s+originalshine.mp3
Title was inspired by a bottle of Armor-All(tm) which stated that it brings things back there Original Shine(Exclamation).
So it's about the OriginalShine you might have towards certain music/people and what inspired that.
Largely inspired idea-wise and structurally by 'Instrumental B' by My Bloody Valentine.
Also it's a song for someone else whose voice wants to speak and be heard through it ... the voice? Spoilers.
djka0s+phantomlimbgobredux.mp3
Phantom Limb but stripped down. 'Gob' was the original title of PL but I didn't know why I named it that.
Actually found out later it's the molten state before a crystalline(crystal) structure becomes solid. It's where the Word (and the Word was wih God)
'goblet'
comes from. I was intrigued at the time with the idea of these things that are no longer part of us
but we still feel...so Phantom Limb made more sense.
djka0s+phantomlimb.mp3
See above. Original concept was as a part of an Art Installation of somekind as you would walk around in this sound space. You wouldn't really actively listen to
the music but it would just be there as the environment in which you did whatever you were
doing...looking,talking,coughing,kissing,etc but didn't really pay attention to it.
The original mix was more challenging to the listener sonic-wise and 4thwall-wise but unfortunately I can't find it b/c I know I kept it. bummer.
djka0s+plungedfeathers.mp3
A single plaintive piano piece that ended the Entry EP inspired by Harold Budd.
The reverse parts are like feathers.
I didn't get the words to it until a couple months later because they came out of it. "Birds are singing for me." Sing-a-long at home.
djka0s+possibly.mp3
Possibilities?! Probably not. This was at the end of my DjKa0s ideas.
djka0s+sad.mp3
A guitar jam with my tele onto cassette from the early 1990's as you can tell soundwise...until the cassette melts 52 seconds in.
Each chord is like a bomb to your brain. Thanks Jesus and Mary Chain for showing me the Light.
Raw,Uncomfortable and unknowingly Embarrassing which makes it Good. Dunno where the words came from...
djka0s+vashtiselfinflictedchainsdjka0s98oldsmix.mp3
Vashti also did the words/vocals to Bittersweet. This was all her's though so I sprinkled a
little magic dust on it. 98Olds because it reminded me of early Public Enemy where RickRubin(tm) put chorus on the drums on 98Oldsmobile. My Uzi still weighs a ton!
djka0s+sound.mp3
A guitar hairball mess. I like it. If you like a challenge this is it to decypher.
djka0s+soundsofsuburbia.mp3
Inspired by the revolutionary production and sound techniques of Sgt.Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour where it's all little
bits cut/pasted/mixed together in a patchwork on top of one another but I wasn't very conscious o
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I wasn't very conscious of it happening that way when I made it. I stilll have loads of alternate demo/different versions of it. From the basic and
stark drum&bass(which I really dug) I put little bits here and there which took about 6 months or so to make it a complete and proper journey. Circa 1996. It's my Beach Boys "Good Vibrations" which I didn't realize until recently.
djka0s+splittingtheadam.mp3
A play on words. Atom...Adam. Originally called Ion. There was a Greek myth I heard that Man was once whole and One with 4
arms and 4 legs. It was coming up Mnt Olympus and so Zeus through(threw) his bolt and split Man into Two people.
djka0s+sunsome.mp3
The sum of the sun. Bright & brittle like the first Big Star recordings. RIP Alex Chilton. A remix of sunshower somewhere.
djka0s+theabyssalsogazesintoyou.mp3
I never got the ladder-like guitar steps I wanted right but Robin Guthrie beat me to it which I heard him do later on in his solo work.
djka0s+untiltheend.mp3
I still think the most beautiful and encompassing of all my works I've ever created just above Untitled1.
Echoes can be found in The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' and Regina Spektor's 'Fidelity'.
Your musical influences
djka0s+untitled1hemispherewithalightsource.mp3
Speaking of Untitled1...Each track/piece has it's own space tethered to a central core.
djka0s+unwombed.mp3
Drums as Bass creating a sort of Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum vibe. The guitar part was created first....then 6 years on I got to the
drums as bass part with little things sprinkled on top.
Pi=355/113=3.1415929
Still don't know why I named it this. Maybe I didn't. Even though there's a shift half-way through in it feels like nothing has changed.
Structurally it reminds me of Donimo by the Cocteau Twins but that's just the way it happened.
Another Happy Accident as Johnny Marr would say.

Has a certain obsession with Imelda may as you tell...
Very Lynch-ian. The beginning are inspired by pbs programs of old and how they would capture the sound of our organs and blood flow.
