Denis Turbide
I've had this thing going on with the guitar for a long time and it's time to get some of it out.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
I've been playing around Ottawa, Canada for a couple of years now. I started playing open mics again, after a 5-6 year break, and it felt great. Then I had this handful of tunes I had arranged and though I should, well, take a shot at this musician thing. That thing I'd been wanting to do since I was nine and my mom gave me her scratched up copy of with the Beatles.
I got my first guitar, a nylon string, at 13 and fingerstyle was always a must as my dad, a trained opera singer, wanted me to play classical guitar. I did take a few classical lessons, and still play (badly) a couple of Bach pieces I picked up over the years.
Your musical influences
Beatles, Jimmy Page, Pierre Bensusan, Jerry Reed, Paul Simon, Bach, Nick Drake, John Renbourn, Stephen Stills, Bruce Cockburn, Stan Rogers, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Lenny Breau, James Taylor, Neil Young..and so many more..
What equipment do you use?
Right now, I play Larrivee guitars. I just like 'em.
