R.F.Y.L Presents D.v.S
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Born David L. Atkins Jr., DvS is an independent lyricist/song writer focused specifically on Rap and Hip-hop. Born and Raised in Memphis, Tn. DvS found an interest in local rap groups around the city. At the age of 10 he was moved to Tempe, Az. were some of his creativity and interest in music became an outlet through writing and freestyling. He was introduced to a different genre of rap at the age of 13 when he was moved to Norcross, Ga. were Cyphers were an ongoing the in the lunchroom. In 2004 he began recording out of the garage of his brother in-law, and has since been putting together a wide variety of music intended for the Run For Your Life Mixtape. His influences range from a wide variety of styles on the market which is a direct representation of his particular style. Most people say his style is innovative and creative due to the fact that his lyrical content revolves around feeling and self through a direct reflection of his perception, hence one of his tracks "Outta Ya League".
Presently DvS is an up and coming artist focused on his music promotions. His current project is a collaboration with Heat 21 of R.F.Y.L records, which is a mixtape consisting of the various beats of Heat 21 and the rhyme versatility of DvS. Most of the content can be found @ www.myspace.com/dvsdamaniac, ready for download. The R.F.Y.L Mixtape is scheduled to drop late 2008 independently so look out for it. DvS is more than willing to collaborate if necessary, any musicians looking for a change of pace he can be contacted via myspace or this site.
Currently DvS is looking for recognition since hip-hop in many opinions has taken a fall, he himself believes its an art which is constantly changing due to the fact that it is all not based on one opinion but a plethora of them which in tell explains the differences in genre, style, swag and any other characteristic that makes an artist unique. His goal is to present a catalog of new music to keep the consensus at a level of comfort, and to be reconized for a limitless talent.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I've had the pleasure of performing in front of a crowd once during a onstage battle back in '03 but since then i've been tweaking my skills since that loss. But I have a number of fans so im out for more recognition.
Your musical influences
My influences originate from the south but I have a broad outlook on music as a whole so I listen to anything that makes my foot tap.
